Is a Prius still *hip*?

the prius was/is a status symbol ?. . . hmm, never knew, i usually pass them doing twice their average speed with my 15 MPG truck and dont get to look at the "classy" driver. i know their great on gas, wonderful for people who cant afford high gas prices or more expensive cars . . .

comming from an automitive electronics installer - get the sebring, easier to upgrade system components and add sat radio and being able to return it back to factory . . . my 2 cents

I just remember seeing Jen Aniston driving one, the reason my memory goes to *hip*...but yep, choice is made, Sebring it is.

Do you have any further info on adding Sirius to a stock Sebring with little issues/difficulty? Thanks.

Sean,

If you aint paying for anything go with the sebring. I guarantee you would be more comfortable in that than a prius

If they replace the car every two years, I don't see how a Toyota would be better. Just about every car is going to have similar quality in the first couple of years. It's the long term dependability where the Toyota seems to win. Not to mention as others have said, the Sebring looks so much nicer. For me the comfort would be the deciding factor along with looks since they are footing the bill. Being on the road all day, hitting countless bumps and potholes, would you want to be driving a little pop can of a car like the Prius? Good choice.

Prius were hip? I must have been sleeping during those 20 seconds or so....

As for the Sebring: Driven by female hairdressers & men of questionable sexual practices.

The choice boils down to this:

Do you want to be seen as some pansy assed hippy.. or just a pansy? :)

Since the company is footing the bill I'd go with the Mopar, no question. When you take someone to lunch or other "official" business you will look much more professional overall.

If you do not pay for gas, repair and you will keep the car only two years go for the Sebring. If you have to pay for the stuff or hold the car for a long term you would need to be nuts go for the Sebring.

yup, sebring...good choice out of the options. IIRC, you're new position is a drug rep, right? the larger car will be useful for hauling around all of the stuff you will have to take with you for presentations...and also all of the lunches and dinners you will be taking to kiss the medical staffs' collective @sses.

oohhh...the memories of how we would take advantage of the drug reps in the clinics and hospitals i've worked at. mwuahahahaha. ;)

The Prius is a leading cause of 'smug'. :LOLOL

I'd go with the Sebring, not that it is a great car but the Prius is just so damn fugly...

This is funny, people who can't afford gas? LOL. Come on. A lot of people who have plenty of money have Priuses, there are 7 people in my office that have them, one that traded a 750Li for one, one that traded a 540 for one. Everyone who has one makes over $150,000 a year. They definately are a "hip" car. As for not affording more expensive cars, the Prius costs $30k now. Ours was $27k (fully loaded at the time), more than your truck. Its not an economy car by any means.

We have one, my fiance drives it. Personally, its not for me but I can see the appeal. We get a LOT of comments on it still, it definately gets conversations started. Is it pretty? No. It does not however drive like a "pop can" car or like an economy car. The platform actually is derived from the Camry, and it actually feels very solid and smooth on the road. It trucks along great at 80MPH, no issue with that. Another thing about it I like is the utility, it can haul a *lot* of stuff and in all reality negates the need for an SUV from a carrying standpoint (coming from a past SUV owner). Lots of great technology too, keyless entry and start, nav, bi-xenon headlamps, good stereo on higher models, bluetooth phone. We get high 40s low 50s gas mileage and it costs a grand total of $18 to fill it up for 500 miles. Resale is also great, its a cool vehicle. Overall they're very inexpensive to drive too.

Now, as for Sean. Being in sales myself, personally my issue with the Prius comes from driver comfort and seating position. The seating position in the Prius is strange, you sit very upright and the dash is very low. Since gas has been so high we've been driving the Prius on trips instead of the Lexus, and I find fatigue behind the wheel to be a real issue. I think for you the right chouice was the Sebring. The Prius however is a really unique vehicle and you can't really get anything thats going to create as much buzz for the price. I think a lot of the "information" given here is from people that quite frankly have no idea what they're talking about and have not themselves spent any time in a Prius.

As for people being surprised to hear the Prius is hip, have you been living under a rock? I can't recall many mass produced sub 30k commuter cars in my lifetime that have had year long + waiting lists.

I could go out and buy her plenty of cars much more expensive than the Prius cash, she wouldn't let me.

Steve, thank you!

You were one key person I had in mine when writing this post.

I really appreciate your response.

Congrats to ya, Sean! I've never been one who buy's a vehicle based on status. I freely admit that I'm selfish! I really don't care what people think in regards to my vehicles of choice. When I bought my new 300C last month, it was all about ME! I didn't buy it so that people would gawk at it and say " what a cool car" or "what was he thinking buying that piece of ......" etc. (lol) You really can't go wrong with any of your choices. The Prius, IMO, is the more practical choice in terms of cost to operate on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. It's concept is inovative. It's well made. As for the Sebring? Good choice! I think that Chrysler's come a long way in terms of overall build quality. You'll be more "comfy" in the Sebring. Hey, It is what it is! Go with what pleases you most.

My pleasure, I'm sorry I couldn't have responded sooner ;)

With the time you'll be behind the wheel, a COMFORTABLE car is more important than an economical car. The Prius is a cool vehicle, but the Sebring will be more comfortable.

Thats what I tell my fiance, I need to get a new LS460L because its going to be good for business! She doesn't agree LOL
