Hello all,
As you can see, I am very new to this forum. I've been lurking around this website as a whole for quite some time now, but I haven't really looked into the forums until a buddy of mine suggested I should. I have read a few posts in an attempt to find some answers to my question, but it seems as though each is taylored to his or her individual needs, much like how my question is. Seeing how many of the members here are very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to taking care of a car's exterior, I am hoping that one of you, if not most of you, can point me in the right direction.
Basically, I own a 2002 Lexus IS300 which I have had since November of last year. It is a dark colored vehicle, namely, Graphite Gray Pearl (like a carbon, dark grayish metallic color). About the beginning of January, I noticed that my car was beginning to show some hairline swirl-marks, or scratches. In desperation, I headed to the website I frequent the most, IS300.net, in an attempt to get some help. I took the advice of some of the members and tried out 3M's Imperial Hand Glaze and some P21S Concourse Carnauba Wax (1 coat of each). The results I got were amazing. I was very happy with what turned out to be, a better-than-new looking finish. All the swirls and hairline scratches were gone. Unfortunately, that finish lasted only for a little while until the lines were back again
. I did everything I could to take care of the finish from using 100% cotton towels, micro fiber towels, the whole nine yards! I followed the directions in the Details Details Details section to wipe from front to back ONLY, using some QuickDetailing spray after the wax (Meguire's). I use a sheep skin mit to wash my car and use car wash soap. I use The Absorber to dry the car. Now, the scratches that are visible under the sunlight are no longer swirl marks, but rather lines running from front to back. I want to get rid of the swirls again, but I don't want to use the 3M Imperial Hand Glaze again since it may strip away the clear coat and paint too soon.
After all that work for nothing, I figured I try a different approach. Someone on the IS300.net message boards mentioned something about Klasse All-In-One and Klasse Sealant Glaze. He swears by it and recommends that I try it. I am also considering a clay bar to prep the surface. In a nutshell, here are the products that I would like to try on my car:
1. Griot's Clay Bar
2. Klasse All-In-One
3. Klasse Sealant Glaze
4. P21S Concourse Carnauba Wax
My question to you guys/gals is, <strong class='bbc'>is this combo the safe way to go?[/b] I know that the Sealant Glaze will just "cover" the scratch marks and not make them go away entirely, but like I said before, I am hesitant in using the 3M polish again in an effort to preserve my clear coat/paint as long as I can. <strong class='bbc'>Also, is it safe to put a coat of P21S wax after the the Sealant Glaze? If so, how long should I wait before putting a coat of wax on top of the Glaze? How do I preserve the "just waxed" look? Can I use Meguire's Quick Detail spray as a lubricant for the clay bar?[/b]
And lastly, <strong class='bbc'> does anyone know of a website where I can order Klasse products for a reasonable price?[/b]
Sorry this post was so long, but I am desperate to find the help I need. All opinions, insight, and criticism are welcomed and please feel free to let me know what you think I should do for my paint (washing, detailing, etc). Thanks in advance, and have a great day
.
Matt
