After reading some of the posts regarding ipa wipe down, I'm still not clear if it's best to use 50/50, or straight ipa.

Personally, i use 50% Isopropyl alcohol and 50% Distilled Water.

Prep Sol is the better product to do wipe downs with...i find Alc/wate mix is to weak to really get all the residue..even straight seemed not to get it all..the prep sol works great...you can get it at wal mart under a different name..but the same results and product....5.89 a quart...

Al,

Prep-All is the one I got. just spray/mist on MF and wipe, right? not too wet?

have you used Prep-All at all (no pun intended)? safe?

yes I used it....I spray a little on the paint and use a dampened MF to wipe it...after a few panels its damp enough were you do not need much more than a spray on the MF and wipe...

Now DuPont has 2 types...one that does not evaporate to fast like the Prep ALL and one that flashes fast....drys in seconds..I did not like the fast drying one...

the Prep all is good stuff...cleans wax stains also...need to rub a bit though

Thanks for the input! Will get some prepsol next week. Am doing a car this weekend, so will use undiluted ipa for now.

So if you buy 70% or 90% IPA, do you dilute to 50/50, or just mix them 50/50 (which isn't a 50% solution). ?

It's never going to be exactly perfect, I fill my sprayer about half with alc, then half with water. Even still, between complete fills, I usually put a bit more of either in the bottle. The dilution is still around how I like it, and if it gets too watery I add more alc.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, 91%.

Me too. I use the 91% isopropyl alcohol from the pharmacy dep't at Walmart.

This is what I've been doing also. My Prep-All left streaks when I recently used it but I think my MF was a bit to soaked with it. I've got some Meg's solvent I need to try as well.

How do you know when it gets too watery?

what does this replace? If I wash my car and dried it, I can start polishing. What is the point of this 50/50?

It doesn't replace anything, its an added step. After you finish polishing, you want to get all of the residue off of the paint with IA before you apply an LSP
