Interior fragrances...

Bounce fabric softener sheet under the seat! :up

I read that in a Truckin magazine in 1994 and have been doing it my cars ever since. Very clean subtle smell, everyone that rides in my car compliments me on the scent. They never realize it is fabric softner.

But would you really want to leave that in a customers car? Just my opinion, but a fabric softner sheet doesn't seem very professional, but more of a tip to tell a customer if they ask how they can keep a fresh scent.

I'm not much for fragrances. I like a "clean car smell." You know, after cleaning / conditioning the leather, wiping down the dash, doing the doors, using the Little Green on the carpet... it comes out quite nicely.

Also, I wanted to congratulate XP on a great job. You have excellent thread-piggybacking abilities. MaD SkiLlz! :p

I would agree here with Scottwax in that I prefer, as do my clients, that there be no scents or perfumes sprayed in their cars.

None of my clients smoke and very few ever eat in their cars so the scent or smell lasts for a good while (unless one to many "air biscuits" get released). I seem to think that the application of dressings to the vinyl will actually speed up the removal of the new car smell.

Viva Taco Bell!!

Old thread but... I use Ozium New Car Smell. You can pick it up at wal-mart usually. I use this for myself...I haven't detailed anyone else. Anyway it smells like a new car to me. The only thing is it doesn't seem to last but a few days.

I use Meguiars Odor Eliminator. It's a spray bottle. Very nice smell.

Yup, the Meguiars stuff smells great. Doesn't last and is kinda pricey though.

Has anyone used an ozone generator? Is there any scent left behind after "ozonating"?

I used to put fabric softner sheets on my doors of my dorm room closet thingy. Thats a good idea, i may put one under the seat soon.

Since I really dont detail anything cept the GFs truck and my car, the GF actually likes my calogne (sp) misted in...Stetson.

I talked to a chemist that worked for a company that made scents and he said that a new car scent would be hard to make because a new car scent is realy paint glue plastic rubber and tar, but they did make a pop corn scent that did smell like popcorn , it made you hungry.

I used to use this little trick. I took cotton balls and placed them in a ziplock bag. I sprayed the cotton balls with X cologne/perfume. I then sealed the bag and poked just a few holes in it and placed it under a seat. It releases the scent gradually so as not to overwhelm you.

I cant rember where I seen a whole website of car smells. I will try to find the link later and post it. The new car smell is not that good for you because it can be somewhat toxic the smell is from all the plastics and adhesives they use to put the insides togather. Which arnt very good to your health I still love the new car smell and could smell it all day but its just a tip.

For the last 40 years, I have been hearing "Urban Legends" of the "new car smell" aerosol sprays that are rumored to be used by car dealers. Zaino leather conditioner smells nice, but it's definitely not "new car smell". "Hanging" air fresheners with "new car smell" scent don't come close, nor do the matching sprays. Yes, this is mostly the plasticizers leaching out of the vinyls, carpet and other plastics.

Internet searches turn up some commercial products that say they do this, but I have never seen any of them mentioned on this or any other site.

Has anyone succeeded in getting back that "new car smell?

Thanks.

I'm glad someone resurrected this thread (thanks, phareous)

Since posting the above, I, too, tried Lane's. I agree with Fr0zen when he says, "it smells pretty good" but, at least to me, it's certainly not "new car smell".

I read about Ozium, but couldn't find it. I did check WalMart, but I'll check it again. Would anyone who uses this characterize is as just "nice smelling" or "new car smell".

As a side note, although I don't consider Lane's a homerun, I did also buy their tire and wheel package. I'm VERY impressed with their safe wheel cleaner, tire cleaner and tire dressing. So, even though I didn't hit a winner with the main reason for my order (Lane's New Car Scent), I'm very happy about the discovery of their tire and wheel products.

The quest continues for "New Car Scent" spray.

Any help is appreciated.

Its been a while since I smelled a new car (got mine in 98) but to me it does indeed smell like a new car. Also I've heard people say Meguiar's #40 Rubber & Vinyl smells similar...I tried it today and it does have a smell that is in the ballpark.

And I say cancer be damned...new cars smell nice :)

Yeah lanes certanly doesnt smell like a new car. But it smells good smells better then most of those cheapo thing you buy at the store.

I make sure the car is vacuumed well and my A/C cabin air filter vacuumed, too (or replaced as needed). I also change out a new layer of activated charcoal filter medium monthly.

Add to that the scents of:

- Pinnacle Leather Conditioner, or DuraGloss 221 Leather Conditioner

- Stoner's Invisible Glass

- Meguiar's #40 or Vinylex

- Einszett Cockpit Classic

- Einszett Cockpit Premium

It sure comes close to that new car smell...and without prompting, most people comment on it. :up

Ozium New Car smell is terrible, smelled like burnt cinnamon. The original scent smelled like a deotorized hospital. I sprayed it in my room after a field day during MOS schooling....Passed everytime because the inspector wanted to get out due to the smell...LOL

I'll have to look into NYD's interior scent. I like it. I will also try the bounce fabric softner sheet thing...

Hmm well I never smelled cinnamon in mine... since I hate cinnamon I would notice :)

But I did learn to use it sparingly...I sprayed that stuff with no abandon the day I cleaned my car and then went out on a date that night...that stuff was strong! I had to appologize for it but she wasn't my type anyway so no big loss
