Interior Cleaners

I'm looking for something to use on my dash and the surrounding plastic pieces to clean and protect without that shiny, slimy look and feel. I can't stand interiors that look like that. Any recommendations?
 
Surf city garage dash away... just spray it on a microfilm and wipe... very low shine and has a great scent too

surf city dash away is nice at leaving a dull finish but i do not think it has any cleaning abilities. i have seen reviews about ultima interior shampoo and the results have been impressive. a couple reviews have said this is better than OPC at a 2:1 ratio.

Not sure about surf city but one thing I would like to recommend you is don't allow much product on dash while utilizing to avoid shiny look.

Yeah, that and the Meguiar's Interior Quick Detailer are nice, even if their cleaning abilities seem kinda limited. A little spritz of something like Griot's Interior Cleaner can help with soiling that's a bit much for those two but not in the "really dirty" range.



But I always wonder how much "protection" interior plastics really need. I simply don't do anything (except keeping them clean) to many of my interiors and I never have any problems. Now if I were parking outside in Florida or Arizona that'd be different....

There isn't any interior protector that will prevent sun damage other than your glass. That components alone will block out 99% (or more) of UV rays. Any product that claims UV protection usually only offers a very limited UV blockage (hours) before it evaporates. I hate interiors that are shiny or altered. If they weren't that way from the factory I don't believe in making it look differently. Shine is for tires and dried out exterior trim, not interiors.

IME, SC Dash Away has very good cleaning abilities. I've removed red clay stains, beverage stains, all sorts of grime with it. I've often wondered if it's simply a highly diluted APC, say 15:1 or so, with no protection left behind but the SC customer service people tell me it DOES leave behind some UV protection.



Very rarely will I come across something that Dash Away can't handle, and in those instances I reach for Megs APC+ at 10:1. It is probably one of my favorite OTC products.

Inexpensive, readily available almost anywhere, cleans well, no gloss added, no build-up, very little odor, works equally well on vinyl, leather and even LCD screens, claims some UV protection.



I very much like this product and use it weekly.
 
I like using Megs APC to clean the vinyl and then follow with Aerospace 303, which claims to have very good UV-inhibitors. It was designed for the boating industry vinyls which sit out in the sun unprotected without the benefit of glass. Just my 2-cents worth.

But I think David Fermani bring up a two good points:

1) Glass is a good UV-inhibitor in itself;

2) Most protectant UV-inhibitors evaporate (gas off) in the hot sun rather quickly
 
let me rephrase what i said before. i think dash away has little cleaning power. i have used it alot and it is great for removing surface dirt but no matter how i use it there still is deep down dirt left behind. i like the stuff for that matte non greasy finish. so yes it can clean but from what i have seen the ultima interior shampoo gel is better at cleaning. and that is cause from what i have read it is a cleaner not a protectant. so you would have to use another product to protect dash.
 
I don't know how dirty the top of your dash is, but it is usually one off the cleaner parts of the car since it is rarely touched. In my personal cars, i just dust it with a damp microfiber and then follow up with 303 Aerospace on a microfiber. It is usually just dust up there. If there are other parts that are getting dirty, then I use Megs APC+ 10:1 and follow up with 303 after that.

I do have 1Z Cockpit premuim, but I can't get over the smell of it. I don't know what it reminds me of, but I think it is those tree scent things people used to hang from their rearview mirrors..in Pine scent. Ugh gross.





Edit: I see that you meant your entire dash. In that case, Megs APC+10:1 followed by 303.
 
Thanks for the replies. My interior is never really dirty, and the car doesn't sit in the sun too much. I just wanted something to use a couple of times a month to wipe it down with without creating a nasty sheen.
