Interesting Product

Yesterday I was at my local car dealer and learned that they are having their new cars coated with a product I have never heard of. It was called Guardex or something like that (I have tried finding more info by searching the net with no luck, so I may be a little off on the name). This coating is stated to last 5 years and supposedly completely protects against acid rain and color fade while leaving a freshly waxed appearance for the life of the product. The salesman also told me that when the product salesman came in he applied the product to a white hood and then (I'm assuming after some setup time) took a can of black spray paint and painted a portion of the hood. 10 minutes later he wiped the paint off with a rag.

I can say that from my own experience that the car I looked at had a finish that was as slick as any I have ever felt. I obviously can't speak for the other claims. As a guy that loves to polish and wax his own car I don't know if I would want this coating on my car (I'm assuming that if paint won't stick on this finish then waxing would be a waste of time and polishing would probably damage it). However, if this stuff really did work it would be something I would consider on a daily driver like my wife's car.

Does anyone have any experience with this product? Any thoughts?

Most of the stuff sold from dealers is snake oil. This one sounds interesting with the paint sprayed on and wiped off; that got my attention. Try to see the bottle to get the name right.

Indicative of lots of oils or Silicone.

freshly waxed appearance for the life of the product........
Exactly that, what s the life span of the product!? No one knows! But I would guarantee, not five years (see spray paint example above)

What these dealers are upselling isnt necessarily bad, its just not really marketable as a true 5 year product. I would be confidant in saying after about a week, you wouldnt be able to spray paint it, and wipe it off.

Some of the better sealant out there like Four Star UPP, Zaino, OptiSeal, Rejex, Megs 21 and several others will perform very well/similiar also.

If I could sell a $600.00 sealant application to somebody, would I? No...If someone wanted to pay me $600.00 to protect/seal with one of the above products, would I? Sure! But Im not going to market my services or products for 5 years.

Well, most dealers sell this kind of garbage and it really doesn't stack up to any of the products discussed here. And, no product of any kind can last 5 years, unless the car is never driven.

If I remember correctly, dont these type dealers services specify that you must "renew" them periodically?
