Insurnace/Liability

I was just curious, do you guys all have insurance? Through who? And how much if you don't mind me asking?

Also, do you take pictures/point out damages on the car when it comes in so they can't say that you caused them?

How often have you had issues with these kind of things? My Dad is worried about me detailing cars incase this stuff happens, which makes me concerned too. I won't be using a rotary or even DA now, but I know there is still a risk with compound/etc. What do you think?

Your dad is smart! I have a one million dollar policy for liability and 100k per car + 25k for business property.

I know a car wash owner and he recently installed enough cameras that they can view the car from the time it enters their lot to the time it leaves. It was about 20k to install the system, but he told me that their claims have dropped almost to zero. He had customers make crazy claims and threaten to sue until he showed them the video-they just walk away mad.

A mobile guy I know walks around each car quickly with his video camera and gets the car's exterior on video prior to detailing. Many others have check in forms that they fill out and have the customer sign prior to engaging work.

Thing is...many people do not notice scratches and things like that until they have their car detailed--then they notice because the car looks so good that they didn't know they had dents and so forth, but might blame you.

Get coverage of one sort or another.

thats what a lot of people say when we dont go for 100%..."great, now the imperfections in the paint will stand out more...lol"

I'm having a tough time getting insurance here in south florida any ideas of agents that will help the small guy

State farm is really good for this sort of thing. It's who I go through. And now that I don't need the garage keepers part of it anymore it's really dirt cheap. I have half a million coverage and a $100,000 per and it's only like $550/year right now. (being in michigan that's pretty cheap and it's supposed to go down even more here soon)

Thanks for all the input guys! I've been reading on here a lot and I'm finding a lot of good info.

Anyhow, the video camera idea is a good one. I think I'm going to implement some form of pictures/video/sign in sheet prior to doing the work so they realize what is already damaged. I did three cars last week and one had some pretty bad scratches and they did stand out more once the car was done.

Thanks again guys!
