what kind of insurance coverage is needed for detailing customers cars?
and where would you get it?

IIRC, this topic is covered over in the pro detailer forum. You may want to check and make sure, but I am almost positive there are at least a couple of posts on the subject. :)

Edit: Well, nevermind my suggestion. I can't find it myself. Sorry. :hang:

I carry General Liability and Commerical Auto. The law will almost always side with the owner when you have entered into a contract to perform a service for him.....ie you have given him a price and he agrees.
From what I was told you are responsible for anything that happens while automobile is in your possession. One example is an uninsured driver swirves and hits his car the owners insurance company will go after you.

3Dog the General Liability is for Uninsured Motorist/accidents etc. Then doe's the Commercial Auto protect you against Accident's that may occur during detailing?

You need a liability policy.

Call the place where you have your Auto Ins., and ask them if they do liabiity for business.

There is a liability policy for your auto, for your business, for your business' auto.

Let me see, i have 6 or 7 ins. policies covering workers comp, 4 vehicles, different liability ins., ect. Its wonderful to wake up in the morning and goto work to pay ins. bills.

The General Liability is just that..it covers everything in general. You make a mistake, someone that works for you makes a mistake..etc etc. The General Liability has nothing to do with driving. We carry a million dollar policy.

Sorry missed the second part.
The commercial auto covers those named on policy for whatever they drive. Many regular policies for autos are like this except if you do this for business purposes it must be a commerical policy.
