Pretty much run it from my house. Maybe 1 -2 a week etc. DOnt need to worry about customers getting hurt, people falling, equiptment etc. the only thing I have to cover is customer cars. Anyone know what I would need or roundabout estimates. I am in PA. At this point I am all cash but just picked up a nice account with 5 or 6 vettes etc. plus his families cars.

It sounds like you need to begin to think about what it means to become an entrepreneur and upgrade your hobby into an official business.

Of course, along with paying for insurance, you will need to consider all of the other expenses that come along with operating a business, such as; salaries & payroll taxes, advertising & promtional costs, legal & accounting fees, supplies & products, utilities, state & federal taxes, licenses, equipment repairs & maintenance, repairs & depreciation of work vehicle.

Insurance is only one part of the equation.

It may be difficult to get the type of insurance you need w/o being a legit business. I'd call a few companies and see what they say.

If you decide to go legit visit http://www.newpa.com/default.aspx?id=25 . Download the "Entreprenaur's Guide", it's all about starting and growing a business in PA, put together by the state gov't.

Well for the few years I have done it this way, I have all the finances figured. I dont have a work vehicle per se, or a payroll aside from me, and my accountant is 60 bucks at the end of the year. I have my federal number but cancelled my state one when I only did it on the side.

It isnt going to be a big elaborate shop, but some of the people I have cleaned for have gotten some nice vehicles lately. I will still work from home 1 -2 a week, maybe every 2 weeks.

Most likely you will have a hard time to insure your at home detailing business unless your home is on commercial property or has dual zoning. You would have to get insurance as a mobil detailer and do it at your home under the radar of the city/neighbors.

Good thing is while I am 10 minutes outside of a city I live in a highly rural area. Woods on one side, private 6 foot fence and the few I have are great. I will have to make some calls and see what all needs to be insured because I dont need a lot of stuff covered.
