Instrument Panel Lenses...How to?

What's the secret to cleaning IP lenses without scratching them? It never fails...I get a new car and after a few weeks the IP lens gets dusty or dirty and I get the urge to clean it. It seems that no matter how soft of a MF towel I use, I wind up with scratches. Is there a method that is preferable to wiping? Maybe a soft brush? I have yet to touch the lens on my 2011 Outback until I receive some professional advice...please help, the suspense (and dust) is killing me :D

Some cars have super soft IP lens, just like some cars have super soft paint. I have seen some that were SOOOO soft that everything scratched them, even the softest microfiber towels. (Like you mentioned).

If you are talking about cleaning them for regular use then I think your safest bet would be a soft towel and Optimum No Rinse.ONR , for short, can remove dirt and grime from soft paint with out marking, so I would think this is going to give you the highest lubrication.

Dry with another super soft microfiber towel.

On my softest challenges I've found anything with the slightest nap mars. I've been using my best WWs moistened with ONR or M34. Works on the softest paints and plastic motorcycle shields that mar easily, might be the ticket for dusting off the dash and gauges. YMMV.

I don't have ONR but one product I've had for a real long time is Novus #1. It's a spray and it's also popular with motorcycles. always worked fantastically on my IPs

Eyeglass cleaning cloths (or something like the CarPro sueded MFs) and either Novus #1 or Meg's QID is my preferred method....

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried optical leans cleaning cloths before or are they more likely to scratch than mf?
