Ink on carpet, question about dyeing

To make a long story short, ink was spilled on my carpet. I figured dyeing it is the only solution and would like to know where to get the stuff to do it and the way to do it.

Thanks a lot !

Have you tried anything to remove the ink stain, you might try 303â„¢ Cleaner & Spot Remover before going the carpet dye route

I've had good luck with "Spot Shot" taking ink out of carpets:

You can get it at grocery stores or Wal-Mart type places. It works best if nothing else has been used on the stain first. Just spray it on the stain and blot with a white paper towel. It took several applications to get all of the ink out of some house carpet (in a kids bedroom), but this stuff has always worked well for me.

Already tried "303 Spot Remover" and "See Spot Go" without success. A local guy mentioned paint thinner but I'm afraid it will fade my carpet. What do you guys think about that option ?

I may have to give "Spot Shot" a shot

Have you tried Hydrogen Peroxide? I've used it to remove nail polish from carpet, but I've heard it also works on ink.

It takes a while - you moisten the stain with peroxide, work it in with a toothbrush, let it soak a while to break down the stain, then blot it out with paper towels. (It's important to blot and not rub.) If ink comes up on the paper towels, just keep repeating the process till the stain is gone. You can also put towels over the peroxide moistened stain, then cover it with folded towels and put a stack of bricks on it for several hours.

It took me quite a while, but I successfully removed about 1/4 bottle of bright red fingernail polish from tan carpet, with no damage to the carpet and no evidence of the stain.

I'm curious as to the color of your newly ink stained carpet. I'm also guessing the carpet fiber is made of polyester. ( although it very well may be a nylon fiber ) In any case, the fibers have tiny holes in them called "Dye Ports" which allow the dye to penetrate the white fiber, thus coloring the fiber. The ink that has been spilled on your carpet has likely been absorbed into the fiber. Ink can be very tricky to remove. Products such as "Goof Off, WD-40,Aqua Net hairspray, Oxy Clean, Spot Shot, Capture Carpet Cleaner" may work for you. However......I'd try some Dry Cleaning Fluid first. Remember to soak the ink spot......wait a few minutes......and BLOT not rub. Repeat process until spot is gone.

Good Luck!!!

Well, I can't find Spot Shot locally, will definitely try Oxy Clean and Hydrogen Peroxide. When I stopped at the dealership, a few guys told me they would mix paint and a lot of thinner and spray away...

BlkTac, it's not a new stain, been there forever. Tried removing it when I bought the car (2 years ago) without success. Just decided I would give it another shot.

Will try the suggested products I can find but I may have to use dye after all...

Here's a picture of the carpet / stain. I assume it is ink because it's purple but I don't know for sure. Almost looks like what I've already tried discolored the area... Your opinion ?

I'd give this a shot with a medium bristle brush to aggitate. If you are interested I will email a photo on what this stuff got out. I can't post it here because it was vulgar vandalism, but this stuff wiped out a customers car that had spray paint over the decklid and windows. It works wonders on carpets too, very handy to have around. I PMed you let me know if that link still works, if not I'll send you a photo. It took all that spray paint off!

Thanks for the link and picture Burlyq. I'll find time to try Oxy Clean and Hydrogen Peroxide first but if it doesn't work, I'll try Stainzout. Not much to lose with that money back guarantee :p

BlkTac, where can I find Dry Cleaning fluid ? :nixweiss

As for where to find dry cleaning fluid.........Sometimes you can luck out and find it at one of the large chain grocery stores. You might try Wal Mart Super Center for both the dry cleaning fluid and the Spot Shot. I know you'll find Spot Shot at Home Depot. Or, stop by your local dry cleaners with some flowers and chocolates and offer to trade them for 8 ounces of dry cleaning fluid! ( worked for me, once lol )

After looking at that ink stain & now knowing how long the ink has been there..........you'll be hard pressed to remove it. The ink has most likely absorbed into the fibers. Dry Cleaning Fluid, Rubbing Alcohol or hydrogen Peroxide will be the best solutions for you.

Well, just tried Peroxide and Rubbing alcohol without success...

BlkTac, what if my local dry cleaner is a guy ? LOL

Guess it's time to dye :)
