Initial impressions: Deluxe water filter system w/pics

I initially posted this on a different forum, but thought I'd share here, as the results were pretty impressive. Hope this helps anyone with hard water decide whether a filtration system is worth the money...

I received the Deluxe Filter System today. The water at my house is very hard, so I thought I'd give this system a shot.



Upon receipt, I checked to make sure everything was there (it was) and proceeded to hook it up.



Installation was a breeze. I just chose a place to mount the canisters, screwed the mounts in and hooked everything up. Only took about 15 minutes.

Next I washed my car with a foam gun using Meg's GC. Instantly I noticed significantly more suds. So much so I decided to do a comparison.

As you can see, the suds are significantly denser when using the filter. Upon drying, the water felt much softer as well.



I don't have a water tester to scientifically compare the two, but going by my completely non-scientific impressions, the system is very impressive and a nice addition to my detailing supplies.

Whose system is that? That is just a softener as opposed to DI? How many gallons is it supposed to process between replacement/recharging? I too have noticed how much more foam is yielded the couple of times I have briefly used my foam gun with DI water.
 
I did a similar system a few years ago when we lived in another town with very hard water. It helped quite a bit however I haven't hooked it up yet in my new house.
 
Wait a sec... but what about the more important factor... water spots? Did you rinse the car with the filters inline and allow it to dry? Did it dry spot free? To me that is most important over whether hyou get more suds or not, suds mean nothing really.
 
I have a DI water setup from a local supplier. I've never washed my Audi without it since so I cannot compare before and after with my foamer (or sudser as I like to call it).



In any case, filtered water or no, you need to get every bit of the soap off the car. This I know for a fact.



Call me chicken, but I've never just let my car air dry since I began using DI Water. Why risk it?

Just to answer a few questions...



I purchased this system from Autogeek. It was $129 minus a 15% coupon.



The first filter is a 5 micron sediment filter, second is the softener. Instructions state that the frequency of recharging the softener depends on the hardness of the water.



Not sure of water spots, as I dried with a WW.
