A salesman at the deaalership I worked with wanted his headlights to look like new so here is the process.....
Wetsand With 4 different stages
1000 Grit originally for about 3 minutes per headlight(or until brown residue subsides), switching sandpaper as needed
1200 Grit for about 3 minutes
1500 Grit for about 3 minutes
2000 Grit for about 5 Minutes
After that, 3M Perfect it buffing compound with their tan compounding pad
3M Perfect it dark polish with black polishing pad
Meguiars Paste Wax

Process took me about an hour to an hour and 20 minutes.
