Infiniti G35 Coupe

I think the TL is a great car, but I'd like to see a review where it outhandles a G35 in an objective test. Subjectively I can understand a driver enjoying the more comfortable ride, the more heavily assisted steering, the lack of oversteer, etc... but the G35 is more firmly sprung, has tighter sways, has more neutral steering, a tighter turn in, less body roll, mild oversteer as opposed to quite a decent amount of torque understeer...



I would be surprised if a 20 minute test drive didn't yield a clear favorite, given the clear differences in the ride.
 
Well, the TL was an '07 Type S and I'd just have to assume that many of your complaints were addressed for the Type S. It's no argument from me as it really doesn't matter to me. It just didn't make sense that a poster was dismissed for a spelling mistake/error and he claimed to have OWNED both cars.

Usually the label “front-wheel drive� equates to a negative in sporty-car comparison tests in Road & Track, but that’s hardly the case here. Drive the Acura at about 7/10ths and you’ll hardly realize that the front tires are providing the thrust. The overall handling balance is surprisingly neutral with understeer noticeable only through tight corners.



Torque steer is present when mashing the throttle pedal coming out of turns, but it’s so slight, it’s hardly an issue. Turn-in response is crisp and body roll is minimal. Credit here goes to the Acura’s rigid body, quick steering response, tuned suspension system � upper and lower A-arms up front and a multilink setup at the rear � and a helical gear-type limited-slip diff that’s standard fare on 6-speed manual transmission models. Around the 200-ft. skidpad, the Type-S outperforms many rear-drive cars, including the two here, posting 0.91g. It ran through the slalom at 66.0 mph, giving it 2nd-place honors.

The TL has more comfortable seats for everyday driving. I think the G has something getting close to racing seats.
 
I worked on a G35 coupe a few weeks back, exterior only! The kid shows the car.

But anyway, I'd have to admit that it was a damn fine looking car. Mostly stock except for the front grill(mesh). Talked the owner in to letting me debadge the rear except for the Infinity logo"mt. fugi" or whatever! Looked even finer then! What a sweet rear end they have! I have pics but they turned out crappy.
 
If the trunk space is too small in the G35, then what about the FX35? 7.8 cu vs 27.4 cu. It's still a performance vehicle. Loading and unloading may be easier for their backs too.



The Infiniti's are helluva performance rides, but don't they have a much firmer ride? Please note that I've only test drove the G35 and FX35. Would your parents prefer a more refined ride like a Lexus or BMW?

Actually, I will have to recommend the FX. That is a great car IMO. I don't know how I forgot about it. Although the FX45 with the V8 is a little pricey.

IIRC the 35 produces nearly as much thrust as the 45 for a lot less cash. The FX is a great car, but those massive blind spots in the rear corners suck.



I dunno, a Charger Daytona sounds pretty sweet to me! :D I'd be recommending that...despite the cheap interior, what a car!

I think your parents wants/needs are being juggled right now. You are talking about two different beasts. I think the 300C SRT-8 is a sexy car with great value but the interior makes me gag (my dad has one). I have always dabbled with getting one, but never got past that point.



I think the TL or a G35 are nice choices for great value in the class. Priced considerably less than their BMW or Lexus counterparts, each offers some wholesome goodness. For me, after coming from a FWD Integra, the TL didn't hold a candle to the G35's fun factor (I like to wag the tail). Also, the engine note and torque curve supersede (also coming from a Type S TL owner, one of my clients).



My '06 may be a bit 'dated', but I prefer the original looks of the G a little more than the new one. Either way, there are left over 06s out there for a song and a dance...I've seen them loaded with a $37,500 sticker go for $30k on eBay with 10 miles. Look around and go do some driving :).

That's definitely a good choice for a touring car. Even the V6 version feels very smooth.

Maybe up top the new TL-S sounds nice, but down low she's silent, whereas the G growls. I was on the ferry with one on Sunday and when he left, I couldn't even hear the car (I was outside standing next to it). Yeah, my client was impressed with the punch and growl from my car, but it could've been one of those "grass is greener" instances, too.

I bet pretty soon you will be able to fix that with an aftermarket exhaust from a company like Borla. I gotta admit I've seen two of them around town and they are much more of a headturner than the other TLs.
