Incandescent lighting ?

I know this topic has been discussed a lot. I am getting ready to get some incandescent lights for finding defects and my question is what kind've of light bulb to get....the white ones or the clear ones. Accumulator seems to know quite a bit about this topic.

I have halogens but they don't work as well as the Brinkman Dual Xenon light. Its $30 and is an amazing swirl finder.

you can also find it at pepboys in the aisle where the other spotlights/flashlights are, and it's around $30...

The Brinkman doesn't work that well for me (swirl-spotting) :nixweiss Nice, handy thing though, worth the $ IMO.

My incandescents do OK with both clear and frosted bulbs, and I find that the high wattage isn't really a big deal either. More important is positioning (what a PIA that can be  ) and getting your inspection angle right.

Get a cheapie incandescnet trouble light at Lowe's. Try to get a high-wattage one, but don't worry about that too much. Get a clear bulb in the light's max wattage. Play with it until you figure it out; remember that it doesn't work like magic by a long shot. Try positioning it pretty far away and use it in an otherwise dark environment (very important). You want a "point source lighting" effect. You really do have to mess around with your viewing angle too, remember that there's only *one* best angle.

With all the lights I have, my incandescents are still my fave swirl-spotters, even if they do take a lot of time and effort.
