In Wal-Mart, they have a foam gun

I just wanted to bump this thread to show everyone pics of the gun in action. So far, the nozzle has IMO improved my process. I use it to presoak and prelubricate each panel that I wash. My thinking is that the more soapy water moving over the panel, the less chance of marring. So far, so good.

I should mention that I have excellent water pressure where I live.

This is the gun in action with one ounce of NXT wash and set to the LOWEST "soap" setting.

If I put one once of NXT in my foam gun you would be standing in a foot of foam. What you have looks like it works ok, but it is no foam gun.

I dilute my NXT down before I even put it in the foam gun. I'm still trying to work out the ratio that works best. When I get done foaming a vehicle, it looks like it has snowed on my driveway. Thats how much foam comes out. I am using soft-water which helps the soap foam up even more.

Yes, definitely more soap flowing over the finish the better the chance of no marring. Looks good. I would suggest to stretch out your supply of soap to dilute the NXT wash in the dispensing container. That's what I do and I still get great soapy mix.

Is there anyway you can have it still work by detaching the trigger part? That's what Accumulator and I do for added performance. I haven't touched the trigger part of my foam gun since.

Hope it continues to work out will for you. From Wal-Mart, it might just make a good additional/back up foam gun for those of us with the Gilmour/Butchers one.

I don't think so, if I am understanding you correctly. It only operates as a unit. I will definitely try to dilute the NXT, thanks!

I wanted to try this out as a cheap substitute for the "real" foam gun. I can't really dedicate that amount of time per wash(extreme technique) so I can't justify the cost of the more expensive unit.

OI812, sorry perhaps I should have called it a soap and water mixing gun.

Don't be sorry, maybe I didn't word it properly. I think you have a great tool, I'm just trying to make sure people understand that it is not a true foam gun. Is it better and faster then a bucket. I think so, as Bill said I think it would be a great backup. I have seen some people post calling it a "foam gun". I just want people to understand that it is not a true foam gun.

But in the end I still think it is better then the bucket. I'm just not a biggy on the bucket or bucket methods. So I apologize to you.

Hey ebpcivicsi, Did you get your whole car done with one ounce of soap? I got one of the Walmart nozzles and set it on the smallest soap hole and used the shower setting and put two ounces of Blue Coral Super Foam soap in and only got about half of my car done till the soap was gone. I can see from your pics that you were getting more suds than I did though, so I guess I should change soap.

^ No apology needed. I use it in conjunction with the two bucket method, not in place of the bucket.

I may eventually spring for a real foam gun, but no time soon. :D

Yep, whole car. My water is fairly soft here and I have really good pressure. That could have something to do with it. :nixweiss

Yeah, it's too bad that trigger part doesn't come off but nevertheless, it looks like it does a decent job. It certainly looks better than what one can do only by washing via the two bucket method alone.

I just hope it doesn't break on you because I'm certain you're going to want to use this tool extensively whenever you wash. All in all, it sounds like something worthy of recommending to anyone serious about the washing step and wanting to take it one step further :D :xyxthumbs

not bad for $6. rather than just spray the car with water before washing it, it's not a bad idea to do that. the soap & water mixture will pre-loosen the dirt making it easier to wash the surface. may have to out and buy one, and if i don't like it.... i'll give it away to my friend. :o

If you do, you will love it. Wish I had more time to do the bucket method, but when I wash vehicles, I usually have to do 3 at a time. Just never enough time in the day.

Using the two bucket method with the Walmart nozzle sounds like a good idea. I was trying to wash the whole car just using the nozzle and I ended up having to get the buckets out anyway. I think your plan of attack makes sense. In any event, I think the nozzle is pretty decent as a hose nozzle even if the soap feature doesn't pan out.

Anyone have a favourite source for a foam gun? Have just started to consider one....but don't know which ones are better than the others.

I get mine from Messner's . As best I can tell you have to call them (608 256-0695) to order, or at least that's what I do. You want item# BAQ-4165900

Total for the last one I got was $76.20 after tax and shipping. There are probably cheaper places though...

I got mine locally. If I intend to buy another one I'm going to call and order from the same place again.

I used my foam gun today :xyxthumbs

I made a rather rich #62 mixture and went to town on my car.

I was disapointed in the foaming ability. Then again #62 isn't the best product for that. But I was impressed in the potential ability with a different shampoo.

I found it akward to use in the sense that I kept having to put it down to wash my car, then pick it up again. I had to lay it on it's side when not in use. It doesn't stay standing up.

So with my 2 buckets, 2 mitts and a foam gun, washing my car became more of a pain then an enjoyment.

Working the gun into my routine will take a little time and I'll have to devise a strategy.

I see the potential and the need, and look forward to using it again with a different mixture.

By the way, I used P21s soap for the first time. To be blunt, it stunk. Zero suds and no real lubricity. Maybe because I have hard water. Whatever the case, it will now be used for wheels (along with my Pinnacle - another boutique disapointment) and to make clay lube out of. I give it :down :down

I have the foam gun in one hand, the mitt on the other and gently wisk the mitt over a small portion of a panel at a time. I never had to totally put down the foam gun to wash. If I did that I wouldn't have the constant stream of flowing soap mixture over the finish, the reason I want to use the foam gun.

You can't use two mitts this way but I see no need to have to use two.

Spilchy- Yeah, it *does* take a while to come up with a reasonably user-friendly foamgun routine. Heh heh, I *still* find it a bit of a hassle, but it sure beats marring the paint :D

I dunno if I ever really get "foam", it's more like "suds". You might want to try the Griot's Car Wash sometime, if only because I know it works well with the foamgun.

Try setting it in your rinse bucket instead of setting it on the ground, just don't let it get fully submerged.

There's another foamgun thread running today with some more tips, but I don't have a link handy.
