Spent 20 years in the Air Force. First 5 years as Security then went over to Command and Control. (Relaying Emergency War Orders and crisis management, coordinating accidents, and disasters with base resources). Kinda like the 911 for a base. Spent my last 4 years in Cheyenne Mountain here in Colorado Springs.

ejant,

I used the same wax on my UH-1D until they went to that crappy flat OD paint. The high-gloss dark green the Army had for years was really not a bad color . . .

In the Army from 1976 to 1980 as a 16P10, (air defense). Spent time in ElPaso Texas, Tacoma and Yakima Washington and participated in annual exercises at White Sands missle range. That was one of the best periods of my life and gave me some direction as a young eighteen year old.

I have nothing but the highest regard for anyone in the military. Over the years, I have given a number of jobs to ex-military personnel. To often, they have a reputation for only being able to follow orders and lacking initiative, I have not found this to be correct. Here in the UK, we have far to many highly skilled military people doing low level work, because of an unfounded belief.

Drafted for 2 years, Served in Viet Nam 1967-68. Operated a landing craft. The Army didn't like the Navy , so the Army had its own landing craft. In other words if you are in the Army's navy they probably didn't know where else to put you.

LJ,

I couldn't agree with you more. Within the company I work for I have the ability to influence the hiring process and always look favorably on ex-military. They tend to come with an understanding of rank structure and protocol as well as the understanding of "continuing the mission" in terms of getting the job done. I've aslo found them to be pretty highly self motivated.

Spent 5 years in the Air Force as a Russian Linguist and then as a drafter/surveyor. I got out on 20May2002. It's great to be free again!
