Apparently several members have ,or had, some connection with the army,

I am a reserve Luitenant in the Belgian Army (ground force, anti-tank) since 1984.My compangie doesn't exist anymore , used to be JPK(Jaght Pantzer Kanone or : hunting armoured guns)

Nowadays replaced with "shoot and forget" missiles.

US Army with 14 years experience.

Currently on my last year of my tour here in Europe.

I work at NATO's military headquarters in SHAPE belgium.

I love being in Europe and i get to live like a rich person travelling all throughout.

I take this to mean "armed forces," of which the US of A has quite a few. Sure count me in, but you better pop tall and say "Yes, Chief" when you enter my ofice.

Never been in the armed forces, but I have the utmost respect for those who serve!! Thanks to all of you for protecting our freedom!!!!! :bow

I'll second, third, and fourth that!

I am currently awaiting to leave for Boot Camp which is the first week of August, off to Parris Island, SC. No Autopia for 3 months!

I will work for communications or intelligence, I'm not sure which yet.

Oh yeah, not a sailer, not in the army, a United States Marine :)

Canada has an army?
Yes we do! .....the equipment is so "well seasoned" they can remember when the Beatles were climbing the charts.

No, I'm not in the armed forces, but thought about it.

cvcaelen,

United States Army retired, 20 years, 7 months, 10 days! Spent 10.5 years in Germany, 18 months in SVN, and the rest bouncing around the states. Never made it to your part of the world but i do love your beer!

Bob

I'm currently serving in the United States Marine Corps. Been in for 18 years and 3 months. Got a couple of years to go to retirement.

Jason, did you ever figure out what your MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) code was? I remember you telling me about communications. Because, if you're coming out here to sunny Twentypalms, CA, we don't have any intelligence schools out here.

It never crossed my mind that some countrys have separate armys, we have only one army with several divisions like Medics,Aviation, Navy, Groundforce, ...

So , with the army I ment anyone with a uniform protecting their country.

:doh

I tried enlisting in the Air Force. Apparantly they have something against gimps with nerve damage and vascular aneurysms don't qualify. Oh well. My hat still goes off to those of you that can and do stand a post.

My original MOS was communications (6334 or something with 6 somehting), 29 Palms CA.

I was then introduced to Intelligence, might want to go here. I got a good score on the ASVAB for every single reserve job there is. I'll be active once I finish college.

cvcaelen,

The United States really only has one Army! We also have the US Air Force, the US Navy, and the US Marine Corps. The Coast Guard is also an "armed force" but they are part of the United States Department of Transportation.

Within the Army we have different branches - Infantry, Armor, Aviation, Military Justice, etc. You often here about inter-service arguments, like which one is the best, etc. In my experience one is not any better than the other, just different. The Army, being the largest seems to try to do everything, while the other services, more or less, do a couple of things - really well! And of course, each service has the Reserves, these are the guys that are just waiting to get into a scrap . . .

I have a great deal of respect for my brother in arms, past, present and future. Even the newest E-1 gives up more than most civilian will ever know, let alone understand.

Bob

As an aside - today is Flag Day! Our flag is 225 years old today and its also the birthday of the United States Army.

That keeps the competition alive!

Good for the moral

Happy flagday

:xyxthumbs :bow Couldn't have said it better myself (well, if I have a day or two to think up something...;) )

My brother served 4 years in the Marines. Basic at Camp Pendelton and worked on ejection systems on Harrier Jump Jets. He got his Good Enough Diploma (GED) and took some college computer courses and is now a computer systems analyst for a law firm.

Looking back, I wish I had gone in also...maybe I wouldn't be doing the same thing I am now, but I probably wouldn't have wasted so many years as a restaurant manager.

From 1983 to1986 i have been in special air force [NATO] spec trained K-9 unit/germany shepherd/

cvcaelen,

Inter-service competition . . . yes, you could call it that . . . !

Not related to the topic but - my daughter gave birth to her second child yesterday at 1700 hours! A daughter this time, her son is 3 and a half. My fifth grandchild . . .

Born on Flag Day and the Army's birthday . . . wicked cool!
