In need of help. (swirls)

All PCs come with that factory white pad. Mine is still in the original packaging. :)

Several members have had that pad disintegrate while in use at high speed, so be careful when using that pad.

Where did you order the PC and pads from? I forgot about the factory pad...I guess it is usable without buying a backing plate. But that factory pad is of low quality.

I didn't speed it up much. I could feel the difference in quality between the factory and the sonus, also didn't want to do anything stupid (I kept it around level 2 and 3, I'm assuming thats 2000/3000 rpms?).

I got the PC/SSR2 from Autogeek, and the pads from Autopia. I'm expecting the Velcro plate to come in soon...

again, thanks for the help

OPMs. It doesn't spin in a circle so it's not considered RPMs. But yes, as I understand it, each number corresponds to a 1000 OPM increase.

White: I tried the PC with SSR2 and a couple sonus pads on the hood. I mostly used a level 3 spin and your suggestion of SSR2. I used slow north/south motions first, then east/west motions. I looked at them at the certain angle they're noticeable in the sun; they're still there, but I can say that they don't look as deep as the swirls on the roof or the trunk/spoiler. Should I go for a second round? Try a different SSR maybe? Increase the OPMs?

I will have my camera back in a couple days, heh. I'll try to get those pics.

First off...always use speed 5 or 6 when trying to remove swirls. Lower speeds are too slow and will take FOREVER to break down polishes.

You need to make sure the polish turns clear, signaling that the abrasives are broken down completely. This should occur right before it dusts.

Try it again, applying a little pressure on the pad this time, and crank that baby up to speed 6. Spread the polish around first on low speed, but then crank it up to 6 to polish it in.

What color pads were you using?

Increase RPMs for sure. I would go 5 or 6 if the swirls are bad. I do most of my swirl removal at about a 5.

I'll try that. I used sonus' orange pad first, then did the same thing with the green pad. The orange pad has a very tough, solid feel while the green pad is soft.

The denser foam is better for cutting pads. Is it a good thing? I guess it is if you are looking for the pad to aid in cutting. If you're applying a sealant, no, a dense cutting pad is not a good thing.

Ok...I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I went on speed 5 with SSR2 and spent about half an hour on the hood. The swirls on the hood look noticeably better than the roof and trunk/wing area, but I'd say they're only about 40-50% gone from the hood.

Still love my car though

Like I said, the hood looks improved (couldn't really take accurate pics of the roof and and trunk, but they are definitely worse). Speed 6? SSR2.5? Try different pads?

Well if you were moving slow, applying a little pressure, and doing a small area at a time, you should have gotten good results. Unless you used too much product each time around. Did you work the polish until it turned clear?

If yes, you probably need a stronger polish. Unless you think the swirls have been reduced enough that one more application of SSR2 will be adequate. But on the rest of the car, you may want to move to SSR2.5/green or 2.5/yellow.

What color pad were you using with the SSR2? These are Propel pads you're using right?

Don't be afraid of SSR 2.5. It is a VERY friendly product, and I often go to LSP after using it. You need a bit more aggressive product IMO to get the results you want. What kind of pad are you using?

two kinds? huh?

If you're looking at where I said SSR2.5/green and 2.5/yellow, I just mean using SSR2.5 with a yellow pad or green pad.
