In need of Advice

So let me start out by saying I`m no professional not even a novice at this. This truck will be my first correction. So today I washed it with a 3 bucket method, foam gun and clay bar`d it. The chrome wheels came out much better but some spots almost look like the chrome is pitting/pitted. Also at the base of the A-Pillar at the rocker panel, there appears to be what resembles a spray pattern from the front tires looking like tar. I treated these sections multiple times even stepping up to degreasers and nothing will remove it.

I`d like to get some autopians thoughts on these matters:

what do you recommend for chrome pitting?

how would you go about removing the tar like substance?

any recommendations of tools or products for future run ins with these products?

The vehicle is really neglected, it would be money time and effort well spent to use the Valugard 3 step neutralization system. Its not too much money and it will prep the paint very well.

Aside from that I would read this : The Aggressive Approach to Washing a Car,

and pitting in the chrome is most likely going to stay, but you can make it look a lot better with some chrome polish, I think Wolfgang has some really good polish if im not mistaken.

the picture of the rim looks like its an alloy rim with a crome coated plastic cover. so in other words careful with what kind of polish is used to clean them and kind of rag used as well so as not to scratch. i`ve had good results from harley davidson chrome clean & shine.

and i`m not sure what that overspray is especially not looking at in person, it might be tar from a tar and gravel road in which i would try some of my 3d bdx on it and if that didn`t work i`ld try denatured alcohol but have to be careful with that not to weaken the clear coat. but i`m also sure others may have some other suggestions. did you try to reclay those areas?

Thanks for the reply, yes this truck is a 2012 and its never been machine polished or clay bar`d even.

now that you say that it does appear to be chrome covers. The pictures are tough to see but the overspray is everywhere on the lower panels. I tried to clay it multiple times. Thank you for the reply

That. Or even the much nastier (but somewhat more effective) FinishKare system. Agitate the contamination with something like the ValuGard Bug Pad while the products are dwelling, and/or clay at that time (yeah, it`ll dissolve the clay pretty fast). In a worst-case you could try aggressive Overspray Clay, but that`ll really scour up the finish (note that this one is awfully scoured up already).

Yes, damage to chrome plating and "chromed plastic" is forever, best you can do is clean it well and remove all oxidation then LSP it.

Eh, that vehicle has needs, but it`s sure no worse than lots of Drivers that I`ve rendered presentable. Wish some of mine had started out that nice, would`ve saved me a ton of work.
