In/Around Calgary

Does anybody know of a good place in or around the Calgary Alberta area to get supplies from? so far I have to run around to about three or four different places to get the things I often need. I'm looking for a place that can sell me all types of pads, polishes, waxes, etc.. I'd rather buy in person, than over the internet as that way I can check out the products before I pay for them, but if it comes down to it, I will buy off the net. Thanks.

Hi and welcome. :)

You may want to try emailing or PMing Deemo as he is also from Calgary. I'm not so sure that it's really possible to find a "one stop" solution, but auto parts stores, body shop supply stores, Canadian Tire and (maybe once spring gets here  ) Zellers are some places to find stuff.

A lot of the other stuff like their VC pads, BF, and other special products are probably only available from CMA or places like that.

There isn't an "all-in-one" stop unfortunately.

After admittedly having way to many supplies (did I say that?) I would recommend deciding on one product for each purpose - a tie in any category would go to the product that is locally available.

After all my testing and ordering from the internet I would have to say Meguiar's is still great stuff regardless of the mass market they supply.

My favourites and their Calgary source:

QD-Meguiar's Final Inspection - Canadian Tire; One Grand Show Off (online)

Polish/Glaze - All Meguiars line available at Canadian Tire, Parts Source, Auto Zone; 3M products from UAP NAPA (16th Ave)

Wax - P21S and Blitz are my faves and only available in the states as far as I know. Meguair's #26 is also good but hard to buff off (Canadian Tire)

Wheel Cleaner - P21S is still my favorite and I ordered it by the gallon last time. Meguiars Hot Rims is also good but I don't use it execept on my wifes truck.

Towels - Microfibre and only online so far. Very pleased with Yo Steve's and the cheaper but second in quality from Neatitems. Pakshak's are supposedly good but never have tried them.

Did I miss anything???

Online orders have been placed with autosupermart.com with "OK"ish service so far.

P.S. I just moved to the SW and need a good wand wash location in the Westhills area.....anyone??

There you are Deemo. :) Zellers sells 303 protectant and I'm hoping in the spring they'll restock on their TW MF towels ($3 ea). If you have a Wal-Mart in Calgary that can be a good, cheap source of some stuff too.

Yep ...here I am....crawling out of the woodwork.

I can't even keep my vehicles clean for a day lately nevermind a full detail.

It keeps dusting snow and then melting. Everytime I wash they get dirty (actually filthy) the next day.

Damn Chinooks!

I missed a few in addition to your post.

Sockmeister 303 can be had at Autozone as well although I ordered a gallon of Vinylex that should last me a while.

Mothers Clay at Canadian Tire.

Meguiar's Endurance (how can I forget that!) at Canadian Tire.

Eagle One wash or Meguiar's Hi Tech Wash at Canadian Tire.

My only source for PC pads has been Acklands Grainger. They can also order all of the Meguiars professional line but don't stock everything on the shelf due to space limitations. Pick up their catalogue and open an account to get a discount.

Whew!. Took a lot of driving around to compile that list.

4DSC - you are smokin' me in the postings now:shocked

cool...thanks for the advice. I've found a great place to buy micro fibre towels...you'd never guess. Costco. They sell them as a "high performance cleaning cloth", there's 5 in a pack (almost the same size as the ones available anywhere else) and it's about $20 (canadian) for the pack.

Oh yeah, I've seen those MFs. I hope I don't burst your bubble, but they don't compare very well with the MF cloths most folks are used to here. The Turtle Wax MFs I mentioned are much thicker and softer than these. The problem with the 3Ms is that they're so thin. The towels people like to use here basically try to be as similar as possible to the terry cotton towels people used to use, that is, thick and plush like a hand towel.

I keep forgetting they have these, but Wal-Mart has a 3 pack of MF cloths that feel almost as good (I haven't tried them) for $12.

Thanks for the heads-up on the 303 @ Zellers!

I just special ordered some, but that will be much easier for next time- I also prefer to see a product before odering.(Except the Zaino I'm about to order)

Thanks for the warm welcome- detailing is addictive!

I'm sitting near a window, and I have to keep getting up to check her out.

Well worth taking yesterday afternoon off to detail!

I'm wondering why no one has become a local dealer for all of these hard to come by brands of detailing equipment...

I dunno...maybe we should think about that. Give everybody here a deal! I got a line on a guy that works for a company named Ducan, I guess he provides all the detailing supplies to places like "Johnny Rockets", and a few other places in town. I'll give him a call and see what he's selling.

I contacted One Grand once a couple of years ago regarding being a local distributor and they said they would send me the info but nothing ever did arrive. Followup email and still no response.

I also checked into distributing microfiber towels but they wanted me to order a crap load - here is their reply:

"The FOB price for #607 (40X40cm) is US$0.73/pc based on qty of

100,000pcs per ship. If quantity is less than 50,000pcs, prices will be up by 10%.

But for first shipment we can supply at US$0.73/pc regardless of qty to ease our business.

Pls let us know your estimated order quantity for us to suggest better price

and we are open to negociate price with you."

They wouldn't take an order less than 15000 if I recall correctly so you are stuck with an initial outlay of about $7-$10K.

They were the same ones that neatitems sells.
