In a pinch, will Megs UC do?

Just ran out of 105 and it will take a couple of days for the new order to arrive. Mean while I have an Audi A5 in my garage that is in terrible shape. So two things.

1. Can you use KB method with UC.

2. Will UC have enough bite to cut into the rock CC this Audi has on it.

Thanks for any help you can get. Never had to use something off a shelf but don't really know what else to do at this point. Tried 3m extra cut, Optimum compound and Sonus sfx 1 with little satisfaction. Now obviously I can the 3m will do but was hoping that the UC was similar to the 105.

Thanks David

1. Yes.

2. Hard to say until you put buffer to paint. Uc does have pretty good cut and is very pad dependent just like all the other non-diminishing polishes. I've used UC with SOLO yellow wool and had great results. Doing some test spots would be the best idea.

Thanks Jason, just got back from Wally world with a bottle. I didn't know if it was the same nondiminshing abbrasives used in 105 and 205.

Please let us know your results. From what I understand (I have never used UC) it might be a little closer to M86. Bret just picked up some UC, so next time we get together for a detail, we will try out M86, M105 and UC.

If that doesn't workout for ya you could try and call a paint supply store and ask if they got some in stock. At the sherwin williams store around me I can get a bottle of 105 and 205 for $65 with the jobber discount. There is also some other paint supply store that told me it was going to be $95. So make sure you call around.

I got the UC and tried it out. The CC of an Audi is probably not the right way to go when using this product for the first time. But here are a couple of points of interest you might want to know.

1. The stuff smells like cinnamon. It kind of bums me out for some reason, don't really know why but it does.

2. Cut wise, I don't really know what to compare it too. Not even close to 105, but I doubt Meg's wants that much cut in a product that can be purchased off the shelf at a Wallmart.

3. It is not a dry polish at all. Doesn't gum up the pads too bad but never really feels like the polish has been broken down.

4. Leaves a reallly glossy look. This would be great for most weekenders, but makes me worry about fillers. I wiped the panel down with Alcohol and was impressed but since it didn't have a heavy cut I didn't really expect to see much of a mess.

5. Didn't have enough cut to level water spots on one pass or even two.

6. KB method can't be used with the water mist mid way. The polish is too wet for this. I still primed the pad as per KB.

In conclusion, I think if you had a car with light swirls this product would work great for you. I can't really see it doing a lot of correction in terms of scratches but could do a good job of a first step on a light correstion on a softer CC. I would say that it has a little less than half the cut of 105. The biggest plus to this product is the finish it leaves behind.

Pads used, PFW, LC orange, Sonus yellow, Megs soft buff yellow and burgandy.

Machines used, PC XP, Makita 9227 rotary.

P.S. these are just some of my own thoughts based on my OWN experience. IF yours differ, wonderfull, but don't be a hater on mine.

I think that UC is NOT water based like M105/M205 so the misting with water not working makes sense. As far as cut I think it's a lot closer to M105 than half the cut personally. I guess it's hard to say unless a side by side is done. I have done numerous test spots with both and it can do a fair amount of correction. But as you noted it's not an OTC M105. I usually follow M105/wool with UC and orange and finally M205/black for whatever that's worth. I guess I'm saying that it does leave the finish nicer than M105 most of the time....even after glass cleaner wipe-downs.

Also, thanks for the thoughts!

UC seems to have a waxy, oily base-that probably prevents drying and masks the cutting ability some. I think it cuts pretty good and has an infinate work time.
