Improper Correction, Seal and Wax

Hey guys not to sure where to ask this question....

So here it goes

I bought this POS random orbital buffer from CT (here in Canada) and I tried to correct some defects in the paint of my daily driver/test mule.

Anyway I used some old Megs Fine cut cleaner, then Megs Swirl remover, followed by Megs Glaze and reseal and then topped off with Mother's Carn...

So the question is when I get a real buffer where do I start? Do I have to strip the wax, and sealer with chemicals or can I go right into the compound??

Thanks Don

(Sorry no pics, I am at work and too ashamed to show the results)

:(

Nope, the next pass at correction would remove the wax and sealant. You may need to start with some fresh product, as some of my older polishes are not mixed thoroughly and don't work as well as those that are recently purchased.

You probably would not be able to get much correction out of any OTC orbit, they just simply won't spin fast enough to cut paint even with a good compound. You'd probably be adding more damage and RDS.

Save up and get either a PC i(if you do not plan on heavy correction and doing this for a living) or maybe a Flex if you have the money. Then you can do some real correction and see some positive results.

Sorry to slightly get off topic and back to your question; you should strip the paint of any chemicals to see exactly what you are up against and also to help with the correction. The polish simply wouldn't polish if it is lubricated with wax would it? So basically, yes you have to strip it down to bare paint. Wash, clay, wash, and possibly an IPA wipedown (Isopropyl Alchohol) and then you should be ready to properly correct the paint.

Claying and washing alone will show you what you are working with as far as defects. The IPA wipedown is not needed.

Thanks Guys

So I will strip it down (when I get a real buffer) the buffer I was using stalled out! It couldn't handle the bite of the fine cut...

If I decide to wipe down with the IPA would that be full strength...

I forgot to mention, I did clay the entire truck but it was like I had waxed it??? Does Showtime have any silicones or wax in it??

Don
