Re: Rice or Muscle

If he is starting a poll regarding tacky modifications on any breed of car versus big engine American cars, then that is something that should be clarified. He is generalizing imports as ricers and that is like generalizing Mexicans as wetbacks. It is every bit as offensive and I honestly can't believe that a member can express that something is offensive and then they are told that it isn't offensive and to chill out. Just because people aren't offended when they are called names doesn't mean the name isn't offensive. We have a couple members here that feel the term ricer is on the same level as nigger. Just because some people don't get offended when they are called either of those names doesn't mean it isn't still a term that should be censored. Unless you are saying that I can start making racial slurs on the forum without reprocusion...

Wow.:wow:

I thought we were just talking about two different types of cars here. I really didn't think of it as a racial slur. I certainly didn't see it as offensive as you seem to.

How about I change it to "Little Modified Cars"?

At least that's what I think of when I hear the term "ricers".

I want to apologize to anyone out there who has been offended by the use of this term. I truly believe that there was no derogatory intent with this thread. It was just a simple question posed which was do you like big heavy horsepower cars or little modified cars.

 :dcrules

I agree. This thread is now a joke!

Re: Rice or Muscle

Political Correctness, the definition of which is:

A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!

:rofl Got anymore of these wonderful definitions?

Re: Rice or Muscle

I don't think the OP was trying to compare modified imports to stock domestics. He was using the term 'Ricer' to define any car that wasn't manufactured in the US. So the poll should really be changed to either Import vs Domestic or maybe Ricer vs Redneck.

I'm not overly sensitive about this sort of thing usually, but I just resent the generalization that all imports are rice. That may be the personal opinion of the OP, but why would someone want to start a poll to see who is on the same side of the fence as far as inaccurate blanket statments go? The comparison that this poll is like starting one that says "American or Democrat" is spot on. That is exactly what this poll implies and just because it would appear that many members here aren't part of the import culture enough to know how offensive the word is, it just seems to be accepted and falsely defined.

So if you didn't know that Ricer is an offensive term, now you know. Most of the people who didn't know it was offensive are people who don't drive modified imports and the people who drive imports who don't find it offensive aren't in the same circles as the people who use the term in a negative way.

Re: Rice or Muscle

I do not know about other States but there is a thing called a "gas guzzler" tax on certain vehicles here in Comifonia.

Re: Rice or Muscle

So.... nobody has the answer as to what we do about Rat Rods? The only real offensive term I've seen used in this thread besides me being called a MeatHead was the word Chevy, oh yeah and Jeep. :D

Re: Rice or Muscle - Muscle, All Da' Way!!!!!

Yep, Muscle, hands down, here.

One will never, however, hear an RX7 or a Accord even COME NEAR sounding like a 62 409 C.I., with 2 X 4'S at even half throttle!

Did i say muscle??
So tell us how you really feel about Muscle Cars. :D

I'm not sure why but I've really gotten a kick out of this thread. This is almost like discussing Zaino.

Re: Rice or Muscle

Some people are waaay to thin skin.
I go to a car show every weekend in the summer and nearly everyone calls imports a Ricer.
Import owners refer to Domestic cars as Dinosaurs from the past. Gas Guzzlers and Ghetto Cruiser's I don't take offense.
Anyone who has nothing more to complain about than how others view your car need to get a life.

Re: Rice or Muscle

Welll, GH 1....First, as a pretty old carnut, I'd like to say that I think jngbrd took offense a tad too soon. I know I, at least, don't always use the term "ricer," in a derogatory manner. (some) ricers, imports, whatever, have some pretty nice paint/graphics, etc. As I indicated earlier, I, at this late stage of my motorhead life have came to believe that there's a place for all vehicles in the hobby, even a (to me) ridiculous looking hummer with 32'S on it :)

Having said that, more to your comment/question to me: I SORELY miss the sound of all those old flathead Fords and Mercs with 1 3/4" or 2" OD diameter duals with glaspaks! Of course, thats PRE muscle. The 440, 426 etc., MoPars? Yessir!!!! MISS hearing them go by, too! I already alluded to the 409 with two fours, wide open, sounding even better with NO aircleaners on it. 340 Duster, Demon? You betcha! Miss them, too. Even miss those 428 and 429 Torinos!

So, I DO sometimes take my Cobra with the Dynomax's out, just to HEAR that music. Also, wanna have a little fun?

Check this out.....Route 66 Kruzin

Re: Rice or Muscle

Having been an import tuner for the past twelve years and being fully aware of how people use the word "Rice" to attack people who modify Hondas and the like, I think I took offense precisely when I should have. I'm not offended when someone makes off color comments that are racial when I am not that race, so I can understand why some of you wouldn't take offense to the term when you aren't working on imports. A bunch of guys with domestics throwing it around not getting offended isn't shocking to me.

The modified poll choices are pretty stupid too. Thanks for the slap. I can clearly see who is important to DC and who is not after this. Thanks for the eye opener. I've got a moderator telling me to watch my mouth while nobody has expressed offense to anything I've said. I've expressed plenty of offense and nothing has been modified except for the title. Troy is the only one even appologizing for anything too, so this whole thing is just stupid. No disrespect meant for Troy, but this whole thread brings down the class on DC and I've know people that I wouldn't refer to a forum that allows disrespect to be shown to anyone in the auto enthusiast community. My suggestion: Nuke the thread and start another one that doesn't have such offensive words and is clarified a little more about what is being voted on. That is, if anything I suggest is valued at all around here.

Re: Rice or Muscle

One thing I forgot to say in my last Post: This hobby, as I said, has room for ANY vehicle, imho. The part I forgot to add is this....Be it a Honda, 68 Roadrunner, 40 Ford Sedamn Prostreet, my 93 Cobra, on and on and on, ALL have a spot in the hobby, again imho. So, I happen to like Blues, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, BB Kind, etc. Somebody that likes Yanni, Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, whomever....Thats THEIR preference, there's room for everybody's favorite listening genre of music, too.

I'm not offended when someone makes off color comments that are racial when I am not that race,
Wow! Diffrent Strokes for Diffrent Folks, apparently. I'm caucasian. I do take offense to ANY "off color comments that are racial," regardless of the race of the person speaking, the race being "targeted," in those comments.

I have NOTHING against a "riced out," Honda or Toyota, as they say and I sure dont think its all so offensive to describe them as such. C'mon! Some people won't drive their ride, whatever it is, hardly at all. They're called Trailer Queens. THAT nickname is applicable to ANY vehicle thats trailered, the vast majority of it's life. Makes not a whit of difference whether it's a BMW, Viper, Lambo, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Vette, Saleen or Roush Mustang, Honda, Studebaker, ad nauseaum. Just mho.

Re: Rice or Muscle

The problem I have with the "Ricers" is ever since the Stupid Fast and Furious Movies the police have been all over any type of performance car enthusiasts and hassle people due to these movies and the images they have portrayed some of us to be and nothing could be further from the truth.
Just because i enjoy modifying my car and making it have more horsepower doesn't mean I am out on the streets racing it and driving like a maniac.

I do not personally care for Tuner cars but i certainly can appreciate the work that is done to them.

"Ricers" on the other hand i have zero respect for as most are junk.

Here is a perfect example of a RICED out Mustang
