I'm very happy with this wet/dry vac.

The Ridgid Pro Pack ($89.95 from Home Depot) is PERFECT for mobile detailers like myself. It matches the HP of my old unit (5 hp), but look at the space savings:

Cubby for attachments:

Long extension cord and vaccum hose that extends to 7':

All tucks away into a toolbox-sized package:

Weighs less than 20 lbs. At 5 hp, you will NOT be wanting or needing more power as a detailer.

602rwtq,

The Ridgid is a nice unit. The hose is a little short, but when doing the back of the minivan I just pick it up and put it in the back with me. It also does not tip over and whack your car. Nice review, great pictures. :kewlpics

Sludge

I am thinking about the wall mounted ridgid It comes with 21' of hose is a plus, but the down side is it does not seem as compact for taking it with you. I think its $99. Hopefully they have them both on display.

Thanks for the review and the pics. been thinking of a replacement for my old shop vac. it works well but is a little cumbersome when doing interiors. also does not have any places for attachments. :xyxthumbs

I considered mounting one of these in the van and running the long hose out to the car I'm working on, but at Home Depot, the wall-mounted unit is almost double the size of this "Pro Pack" toolbox unit.

I went to HD today, I agree on the size difference. I will be using mine mostly at the house so I like the wall mount and the longer hose. I gave it a quick try and it has good power.

I also picked up a DeWalt that runs off of a 18v battery or 120v. It does not include batteries, but I have 2 from my drill. Its smaller then the other ridgid, but has very low power even on 120v. So its going back to HD tomorrow. It was also $99.

I have the same unit. Just got it a month ago. I have two complaints, mostly minor.

1. Those flappy doors do NOT stay open, and they should. It drives me nuts that they keep shutting on me. There's got to be a way to get them to stay open long enough to put the hose and cord back.

2. The hose is a tad short. It does store away nicely, but even in my Miata I have to put it in the car.

Positives

1. It stores nicely, just like a tool box.

2. Sucks good for the money.

3. Lightweight, and reasonably quiet.

4. Good $$

Rigid also sells hose extensions with a coupler.

The hose kit may be a little pricey but it is WELL worth it. The hose is longer and much more flexible than the one that comes with the detail kit as well as the standard hose on the 4050. It never kinks up and will "flow" most anything you're likely to find in a car.

Thinking about picking up either this or the WD4050 tonight - any input is appreciated. I live in a condo so storage is big for me. Is the pro pack really that much smaller then the wd4050?

Also any printable coupons ect.. for HD and the rigid products?

Hmmm . . . I really like the idea of this smaller shop vac and I did just get a 10% off HD coupon. Maybe I might pick one up soon. I think my current shop vac is only 3 hp.

i wish the attachments for water extraction were clear so you could see what was happening...i don't suppose anyone knows of other attachments that work with this vac? i'd prefer a smaller nozzle (wider, but thinner like on the LGCM and other carpet cleaners.

the one that comes with the detail kit (or separately for ~$7 at home depot) still seems like the opening is too wide to properly get enough water out.

Where are you guys getting these coupons from?

Mine actually came in the mail with my registration renewal notice from the DMV. I guess the state of MA will do almost anything to make a few extra $$$.
