Ok, so I have been busy this week. Started the week off with an H2 sut, came out great, FPII on the whole vehicle. Next day did a navy blue Z71 full detail, not real bad and THIS is where the problems seemed to start. I did a Black 4runner today, same thing. Ok, here is the problem. I have tried several different ways of doing this. I have an orange CCS pad and White CCS pad. I use menz IP and FPII. I started with both the Z71 and 4runner with the rotary with the orange pad and Intense. I followed that up with the PC with White pad and FPII. End results, hologramming and swirlmarks EVERYWHERE!! I'm thinking I'm somehow inducing swirlmarks. Ok, So you may be thinking the Rotary did the hologramming which it very well could have, but wouldn't the final polish pull that out. I'm using everything correctly as I have in the past and had great success, not anymore. I even followed up with AIO today to get any excess oils off and still, same thing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out. What do I need to try? Am I using the wrong products/pads to do the job. I know a bunch of you guys on here are pros, what buffer speeds, polishes, pads, techniques do you use?? I can't keep doing these details if they are gonna come out looking like crap. I mean, the paint glistens when I am finished, but there are still swirls and holograms everywhere. I will gladly throw all my stuff away and buy all new pads/polishes etc if that is what it takes for the correct results. Any info would be beyond appreciated!! Just tell me what to buy, or tell me how to fix this problem.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

Where are you from? Please put your location in the User CP. :)

You are in the right spot to get this taken care of!

Here a couple guidelines for the products you are using.

Intensive Polish via orange, or polishing pad @ 1500 rpm

Final Polish via polishing or finishing pad @ 1500 rpm, or PC - polishing - 6

I would suggest getting some halogen lights to guide you in your work. Also, mix up some Isopropyl Alcohol/Water 50-50 mixture to use after the polishing stage. The menzerna polishes do sometimes leave a little residue. The IPA mix will help remove this. After you are done doing the IP stage, do an IPA wipedown, and pull the vehicle in the sun. The paint may have some slight holograms, but if there isn't swirls, go ahead with the FPII. If you still have swirls, you may need a more aggressive polish. The FPII doesn't have much correction so make sure you have removed swirls prior to using it. It will eliminate holograms though!

Greg is right... I would like to add the following...

Considering you've just done the orange/IP with rotary and white/FPII with PC and have holograms and swirls...

The swirls are highly unlikely to be caused with orange/IP on the rotary. IP isn't that abrasive and orange pads aren't too harsh, so unless there are little particles stuck in the pad, those swirls were there before.

I would recommend, after IP/orange/rotary and FPII/white/PC, you go over an are you don't like with orange/IP/PC-6 a couple times, and see what that does... I can almost guarantee you'll get rid of at least to holograms

The 2nd thing I would try is using white/FPII with a rotary, after the orange/IP/rotary... this might take out some holograms you left with the previous step...

Your questions as far as what everyone uses and does are too general... you have a good machine, good pads, and great products... sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's user error

Try what I mentioned above and post up some pics of everything you're talking about, if possible.

Good luck

2 more things...

relax and practice... you shouldn't be doing details for money until you've perfected (or close to) a technique with pads/polishes/tools that works very well. practice makes perfect in this situation

2nd, make sure you work the polish in enough... I just did a hood on my mom's Toyota corolla tonight to try out different pads/polishes...

I detailed sections about 10"x20"... I went left and right (2 times only because the pad covered the whole 10" in 2 passes) and up down (about 5 times)... if you see the left right as 1 stroke, and up down as 2.. I had to use 8 total strokes/passes to break down each Meg's polish (9,82,80,83,2,4) and FPII with a white pad as well... with a PC I would probably do it for twice as long

Thanks guys, I am curious to try the alcohol mixture. As for doing details for money, I'm good at what I do, I just have had shotty results on 2 vehicles and I have to figure out what the problem is. I appreciate the concern though. Thanks guys, keep up the comments!!
