Im carrying too much stuff!

I know this has been discussed before and there is a thread dedicated to it. But I want to freshen up some responses here.

right now I have a pickup truck and when I do exterior details I carry SO SO SO many things with me, its starting to become a pain. 2 5 gallon buckets, a container for my polishes and wax, a container for premium mf's, a container for grunge mf's, shop vac, container for exterior chemicals, a container for interior chemicals, both PC and Makita, container for pads, container for different brushes, well you get the picture.

I could never do this mobile detailing thing with just a car! How does everyone who drives a car carry all their stuff around with them to details.

Some pics would be super helpful as well! I live on the third floor of an apartment complex so getting things down to the truck in the morning is like 5 or 6 trips, then when I get back 5 or 6 more trips. I need a better system somehow.

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Jim

I've condensed everything I need to the trunk of my car. That includes my powerwasher too. It also helps to inspect the vehicle ahead of time to think over the products you'll need and not to overload on detail day.

I've done complete jobs out of my 350z before. My MFs go into bags, then rotary, (the 2 times I've used it so far) and PC, compounds/polishes/waxes and cleaners all go into a double-wide kind of milk crate. My hoses and brushes go into one 5 gallon bucket while my pads go into another. I also have the small Rigid shop vac that mounts to the wall that rides shotgun with my milk crate. And lastly, (I think) my shampooer sits in the back with the 5 gallon buckets. It's pretty compact, but its everything I need when I know what I'm working on and plan ahead to only bring the stuff I'm going to need. That also leaves me enough room for an Alpine 850 amp and 12" TREO sub in box.

It's not pretty, but it'll clean cars!:)

Jim just a suggestion you should of ask for pic too...lol

tip 1(but im sure you already know this)regarding your polishes and waxes if there anywhere from 1gal to 16oz condense them into small oz bottles

Exactly what I do. I like to look at the car and take pictures to go home and think about what products would work best. I also grab extra polishes just incase my combo dont work out to well.:getdown

I'll take some pics tomorrow as well but this is what I have...

1 plastic bin for paint m/f towels and all my pads

1 plastic bin for all polishes, LSPs, QD, interior stuff, stoner, etc...

1 plastic bin with harsher cleaners and dressings... like Meg's hyper dressing (3 sprayers1:1, 2:1, 3:1), meg's apc, wheel brightener, p21s wheel cleaner, etc...

1 5 gal bucket holding all washing stuff

1 5 gallon bucket holding all m/f, terry, etc. towels for glass, exterior trim, jambs, etc...

makita bag with makita and all backing plates

adidas soccer bag with PC, backing plates, brinkmann, gloves, pad brush/spurs, etc...

vacuum and halogen lights and that's it

I use 1 5 gal bucket to keep my wash stuff after washing, and paint m/f towels as I use them

the other 5 gal bucket keeps all the other towels, after use

Like I said, I'll snap some pics soon, hopefully tomorrow, but hope this helps...

I carry alot of stuff too, but I have a garage so its easy for me to load. I have it set up for the space of my bed though so nothing moves around.

I used to fit every thing in the back of my A4. Vac, durrmaid extractor, 2 30 gallon bins, 15 gallon compressor, a couple buckts and my sign. good ole 60/40 split gives a bunch of room:woot2: I dont think I ever took a pic of that though.

heres my truck setup. the 2 big bins are on wheels.

cj99si, nice setup, thats what I'm looking like right now, I need to condense that though because of the three flights of stairs I have to travel. Its getting pretty annoying.

By the way where did you get that folding sign from?

Jim

maybe get a tonneau cover for the truck...leave what you can and just make trips up the stairs for the stuff that doesnt fit...like vacuum, extractor, etc....the taller stuff

I thought about that too, but then decided not to and just deal with loading and unloading

I have one milk crate for chemicals. Throw the brushes on top of the chemicals. Then I put my MF's in one 5 gal bucket, and pads in he other. I then stuff that into the trunk and manage to get a shop vac, hose, extension chords PC/rotary and the rest of the brushes in there too. Some times, depending on how much I have, I will have to bring somthing in the cabin with me. I have a really small trunk (GTO has fuel tank between trunk and seats, so you loose a little there).

Some tips-drop the polishes to small ~6oz. containers, put chemicals into the buckets so there are fewer trips. I also think a locking cover would be nice, but only if you are secure with leaving your supplies down there.

If you can't store stuff in the truck maybe you can carry the items differently to reduce the number of trips. Provide the trips aren't because you can't carry more weight then it should be easy. A really big bag will carry smaller bags or containers. I used to play Hockey many years ago and you can carry people in the Hockey bags they are enormous. They also have tons of compartments, very durable and not very expensive. Some are as big as 44" x 20" x 20". Ziplock also makes giant ziplock bags with handles that will carry a ton that are like 3' x 2'. If your truck has room behind the seat you can keep a lot of stuff back there too. I store 6-7 1 gallon bottles for chemical refills plus my bucket heaters during the summer behind my S10 bench seat.

One milk crate for chemicals?? Thats not nearly enough for me, what kind of chemicals is everyone carrying to a wash/wax/interior type detail???
