If you were buying a new car...would you let the door get painted to fix some chips?

Well..the owner of the dealership said they would fix it anyways...so If I don't like it....I don't have to take it....but the suck part is the fact that I already put my CL back to stock. So either way...I'm trading the CL in. If the vert doesn't look perfect...I'll probably kick up a grand and get an 04 coupe. But I do REALLY want the vert.

I actually almost bough an 04 GT, black that had the same damage....a set of scrapes on the pass side door. They offered to fix it, but I passed on the deal.

On a side note...$3000 below invoice on a cobra is a GREAT deal right now, the best price I could get on a cobra was only like $1000 under STICKER - current rebate ($3000) [$4000 off sticker total]

True...but I was originally looking at a Silver coupe....and I was told that the vert is $1000-$1500 less because of the rebate.

All cars are repainted several times by the time it gets to you as new. That's simply a fact. They get knicks, dings, chips, dents and worse in the transport process. I know this from working with the international shipping ports here for the various car manufacturers, both incoming and outgoing. As well, most of the dealerships in the area. I do all the permitting for painting operations in the state.

That said, you do have something to fear, and that's the body shop side of the dealership. A whole lot of them absolutely cannot grasp doing small repairs correctly, and will instead paind the whole door. Those jobs are normally poor. However, the higher end dealerships all have a relationship with the touch up guys like Colors on Parade and such. They use air brushes and the like, and do tiny undetectable repairs on the little dings and chips. The body shop foreman tends to hate these touch up guys because they take business away from them.

No one could tell. My friends dad used to own a body shop....I asked him to guess which door was touched up.....he said which ever one it was....he couldn't tell!

As I said earlier in the thread, I have seen the same thing done on a black car and I was unable to tell and I knew where the chips were.
