If you haven't clayed, you should!

Started my total detail on my car yesterday, the clay part. Hells bells did it come up good. Must admit, this "smooth as glass" claim i took with a pinch of salt, but hand on heart, ive never been so impressed with a product. Easy to use too. If you have never clayed the car you are missing out on a truely glass finish.

I can't wait for spring here in snowy Northeast Ohio. I clayed last August, but I am sure after our particularly nasty winter my car will be due for clay, smr, etc the whole shootin' match! :)

Hi Mark,

What clay did you use and where did you get it from?

I'm in the UK, and all I;ve found is Megs. clay, but it's not that well thought of on this forum.

Thanks,

Face

face, unfortuately its a halfords branded bar, made in japan..... and they don't stock them anymore, i bought a load for £1.49 for a 300 gram bar! ive only used megs before but at 85gram is a tad tight, i mean its not enough for a full car ive found.

I cut my megs bar in half and it was enough to do my 306, still have the other half left, and half a bottle of the QD.

you still got half a bar left? maybe im using more cos i went over the car twice! Was suprised at the amount discolouration that came off onto the bar.....and my car never goes out in the rain! Still it is 12 years old and was probably its first clay its ever had. well impressed though. step 2, now on with the one grand polish.

rich, before using clay, i never fully got out all those small imperfections....was truely amazed last night, just can't wait to crack on with the rest now...... strang how it works so well as it hardly touches the surface.

Surface feels so good. Guy on sat, was goin on about how he doesnt need anything other than his autoglym stuff for his car, then in my boot he spots the clay, feels my paint now he wants some, and some mfs and some p21s blah blah blah! Oh how i laughed!

nah just a show, Pug dealer opening. People there gave me loads of abuse cos my car was filthy and i spent ages cleaning it whne i got there , thing is it was in basingstoke most came anout 5 miles to get there, 40 miles at the most, i came over 100!

Was suprised at the amount discolouration that came off onto the bar.

Me to the first time I used clay. Once it dirty, I bin that piece.

NickATRvtec- Depends on various factors. If your clay is "aggressive" (not sure what you have over there), then yes, it very well might. If you're working it hard enough to remove contaminants that are UNDER your Autoglym and Blitz, again, yes it will. If you use a gentle clay, and use it gently, then NO, it won't. I clay SOME part of my car almost every time I wash. It doesn't remove an appreciable amount of whatever I have on the paint. The trick is to be as gentle as possible.
