If not IP, what to use before FP2

I am a few days away from detailing my Black CLK430, which has fairly signifigant swirling (I will post pics before starting). However, I know this car has a soft clearcoat, and polishes fairly easily, so I am going to start with just FP2 (start with the least aggressive, right?). But I have two questions:

1) I plan on starting with FP2 on a 7424 w/ white pad (CMA), if this is not aggressive enough to remove my swirls, does it make any sense to try a more aggressive cutting pad (yellow) with a finishing polish like FP2, or should I just go straight to a more aggressive compound?

2) If I need a more aggressive compound, I do not want to have to wait for a mail order of IP to arrive, so I will look for something OTC... what would be the best OTC choice for a pre-FP2 compound? I don't want any fillers hiding the swirls.

Thanks

Can the 1Z products be found locally (OTC) in the Bay Area?

Megs DACP or 3M Finesse IT II Machine Polish. You could also use 3M Perfect IT III Machine Glaze, it's less abrasive than the other two but more than Final Polish 2. You can get these at body shop supply stores.

Good question... I've not seen them, but I've only looked in parts stores (Kragen, Pep Boys, etc...). Where else might I look?

Also, I never found out if it would make sense to try FP2 on a yellow pad before moving to a more agressive polish. Any thoughts?

Check the 1Z site for distributors. www.1z-usa.com

There are a few in CA, however I don't know if any are in the Northern part.

I do almost all of my detail supply ordering via the internet as you can't beat the selection. I love Einszett products, although my only complaint is the container system is a pain. Not to try to plug but David's store is super quick when it comes to ordering products from the Autopia store. I live near the Bay Area and I usually receive my products 2-3 days after I have ordered them.
