I thought it was Clearcoat Failure... Got Lucky!

I am currently using P21s Shampoo and like it very

much but would like to add some slickness to it

so my wash medium glides a little more.



I think I read one time to add a cap full of glycerin.

Is this right?

Interesting question! I searched the archives but got no carwash-related glycerin usage posts. If nobody has an answer to the glycerin question, here's another. Does anyone add stuff to their car wash bucket? Besides car wash and water, that is..
 
It is insoluble for the most part in water and will leave a nastly film on your car!!



I have heard of people adding a few tablespoons of vinegar to help agaist bad water spoting for people that have very HARD water supplies. That is about it.
 
Vinegar in car shampoo? Ouch! That sounds dangerous considering how acidic vinegar is. I hope they don't accidentally use too much. I think a few people have posted about using vegetable oil as a lube. But then again it sounds like that will leave a film also.
 
Won't hurt much, but could possibly reduce the mineral deposits in the water...............have never tried it so can't comment on effectiveness...........
 
Actually I've found the P21 shampoo to be very slick or slippery for me. Its one of my 2 or 3 favorite car washes. I just wish I didn't have to use such a generous amount of the wash to get the suds/lather that I generally like to see.
 
This is the hood of my 2006 GTP. It has been re-painted and I noticed a couple weeks ago that it looks absolutely terrible! Sits outside 24/7 (you'll see why later:Dancing Dot:), and it's a disgrace for any detailer to own.....

It actually looked like the beginning of clearcoat failure, but it turned out to be oxidation..... (Whewwww!)

Process:

M105/Orange 1-step Griots polisher/orange pad speed 5 heavy pressure slow passes.
Followed by White pad speed 3 medium pressure quick passes.
Followed by Blackfire Wet Diamond (by hand) X2.
Followed by Z8 wipedown.

Before/50-50:

I noticed in the last pic 2 corvettes in the backround... very humble of you, lol. No wonder it stays outside

I have the new tag ordered, but it hasn't come in yet. I just transferred the old on temporarily!:D

He's a Border Collie. Smartest dog I've ever seen. One time I put him on a stay command on the front porch. The next morning my wife says: "Where's Kobe?" He was laying on the front porch waiting to be released!!!! (My bad... only done it once!):o:o:o
 
Clear coats should not oxidize like that . Im hoping not but the same may happen again in a couple of months . If it does i would take it back to the paint shop.

Looks beautiful now though! :thumbup:Cute Dog !!

The hood was actually repainted prior to my buying the car. You're right, I've never seen clearcoat oxidize. I did notice it was VERY soft and easy to correct. The entire hood correction only took 30 minutes including the sealant.

May have to get it re-painted at some point. (but it's my "beater"):rofl:

Looks great now, Bill! Nice work. 30 mins on a "beater" that sits outside in your neck of the woods ain't too bad.
 
Bill; There is absolutely no better reason for any car to sit outside, than the picture that you posted!! It all made perfect sense when that particular picture filled my screen!!! LOL

I've got a friend with a 10 year old Mercedes, and the hoot and front quarter panels are heavily oxidized. She said she took it to the dealer, and the "fixed" it, but it came back after 6 months. I did some research, and according to a Meguiars thread, if you have oxidization on clearcoat, you basically have clear-coat failure and are SOL.

Anyway, I told her this, and said I would see what I could do. 4 Hours of work later, it looks much better. I told her, let's see what happens in 6 months!

I hope for her sake that it stays looking good!
