Do you remember when the big debate was whether you were a Chevy or Ford person? I don't mean to leave out Dodge/Plymouth, but Chevy/Ford was the Coke vs Pepsi of the time. Now, I think you could use Honda vs Toyota, BMW vs Audi, or any number of products that have die hard fans. I have a theory that if you fall into one product and it suits you, then nothing else will feel right - EVER! Here's why I feel this way - I grew up in the 70's, would rather walk than ride in a Ford, even though all my Chevy, Pontiac cars were basically crap that I worked on way too much. I still thought GM was great, the few times I bought Fords, never kept them long and even though they didn't blow an engine or interior self destruct (Pontiac), I just didn't like them and still thought higher of the Chevys. Doesn't make sense does it? I grew up and started buying other brands, I found that I strongly prefered Toyota over Honda, with Mazda my second pick, Nissan - liked in the past, not sure now. Chevy? nope, no love anymore, So, recently I tried a Ford again - last Ford was a 1984 T-bird, so I got a 2011 Tuarus, kept it 5 months and although it had transmission issues, and stayed in the shop a week, it wasn't that, it was something I can't quite put into words, but I just didn't love this car. On paper, it was great, I got a steal of a deal, it was low miles, clean, family loved the fat car ride and I liked the 3 body trunk. But, no love.
A buddy of mine put it this way, " when you do something purely in a bean counter mindset, you lose the special passion factor" ok, what do mean I asked. He said it's like wanting to go out Saturday night and get a lap dance and then deciding, I'll ask my sister to do it, she's a woman, doesn't have plans. Whoa bro, I GET IT! So, think about it, ever have someone just love a product that is just meh to you? They can't understand you and you don't get them either. Now, it gets more serious the more money involved and the bigger the product like cars or trucks. But that what makes life interesting and lord knows how dull it would be if we didn't have choices.
POISON - I am poison to: Ford, Honda, Cub Cadet, Baretta, Lee jeans, any chick flick, Coke, FK products, any ketchup that ain't Heinz, beer in green bottles, and a bunch of other crap. So what does this mean, well, if you're ever in a situation where you have to choose between several things, go with the one that stirs your soul, makes you smile or brings you inner pride & joy. It may be the cheaper option but price shouldn't be the main factor. Lastly, say it's something you always wanted but never got, like you wanted that motorcycle but wife/parents had a cow - and now you can buy one, don't, take the rider training and rent a bike for a few days. You'll either love it, scare yourself to death or donate body parts to some lucky person(s)!
