To all the original autopians I apologize, I'm new, not a green horn. Retired A. F. remembers the good old days. I just didn't have any idea auto detailing had this type of following, I always had a passion maintaining my ride, yeah we detailed but It was my love of cars, not the actual love of detail work that drove me. I love cars and appreciate what true detailing work can do!
I will stay away from my previous posts that became extinct, I kind of understand, I like a good debate as well as the next person. :argue
Since becoming an autopian, detailer, my love for cars and this forum has caused me to run :bounce , not walk to my purchase of a pc and multitude of products. I have learned from this forum and personal experience that there's a serious debate on the proper cure time between coats of SG or any topping over SG. I applied Klasse AIO x2 + SG x3. The AIO went on and off very easy, without a hitch. I did (do) have some questions concerning SG, my initial problems were to do with applying by pc, which I've learned, is an advanced technique. So by hand it's really very easy and probably faster than by pc, less prep I guess. I applied the first coat (WOWO), waited a week, washed and dried, and applied another coat, this time letting it sit for over 30 minutes before buffing. 4 days later I applied my third layer, again waiting for over 30 min before buffing. I now live in AL, every day is hot and humid. Did I say hot, I mean really hot and humid. It rains at least once if not twice a week, has been for over two months. Every morning there's enough dew outside to make one think it rained all night. My car at the present isn't garaged, yes sir, outside 24/7. I have noticed since the first layer of SG, no matter how careful I am, a slight haze become visible within 24 hours, not everywhere, just different places, I know when I buffed it off the day before, and I didn't miss these areas. The haze wipes off very easily, you could just touch the paint with your fingers ever so lightly and it would wipe it away. So I don't want to add any QD, so I let it stay that way until I am ready to apply another layer.
Bill North, thanks for bringing up the archives on the subject!
It's been a few days since my third layer and again today, I noticed this hazing in a few places, easy enough to remove, but I am also at a loss at understanding where this is coming from. I'm assuming due to the constant humidity, rain whatever, my SG layers are not completely drying out within 24 or even 48 hours. The car looks great, after the first and second applications I could truly tell the difference in depth of shine. I am wondering how I would explain this to anyone, after detailing their vehicle with the Klasse twins, why this haze sometimes shows up a day or two later. I guess I should just accept this problem and move on to something else, but I'd like to try and figure this out, I've got nothing to lose. Do I have three layers of SG or just one, remixed twice providing an SG cocktail? I have this unopened jar of Pinnacle Signature wax for metallic paint that I'm dying to try, hoping to see any more depth, or wetness on my Steel blue paint. It's not dark enough to give a showroom finish, nor is as light as not to see a great shine, just hoping to see something after it's applied and buffed out! I'll post my thoughts after. In the mean time, looking to hear on everyone's thoughts on the SG cure time dilemma. Maybe different cure times according to climate. I haven't learned enough to make a guess. Thanks to all for reading my long post. :sosad
