Well, it looks as if there's a 50%, 60%, & 80% of it not raining from Wed-Fri. {Optimism taken from an earlier post by CharlesW}.

Time to start advertising interior details. It doesn't have to be clear skies to clean that. Actually, I try not to let the weather affect me at all. I would be the best sunglasses salesman in Seattle if I lived there. 8) A successful detailing business is partially due to how well you can sell yourself. Jump on the classifieds and start calling people who are selling their cars and ask them if it is ready to be sold. A clean car sells better. I would throw out a couple ads in addition that advertise your ability to detail anythiny "RAIN OR SHINE". Capitalize on the weather and offer a Rainy Day discount. Tell them that they will have the shiniest car under the sea. lol Show pictures of crazy beads on freshly waxed paint and ask them if this is what their car looks like. Right after a rain storm is when you can really seperate the waxed cars from the unwaxed ones. Look at this streak of weather as an incredible marketing opportunity. :) And look at the bright side... At least you don't ride a motorcycle to work. When I get that kind of weather forecast it means I'm taking the bus for awhile. lol ;)

Did a little advertising online today. Was contacted by a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He should be at my home shortly to discuss a few things with me.

Watch out for those guys. There are a couple organizations that love to troll craigslist and online classified ads for potential new members. They basically require a membership fee to attend meetings where you are able to network and pick up best practices from other business owners. Sometimes they will call themselves 'chamber of commerce' but in reality they are something else. If this is your actual town chamber of commerce meeting with you then that is different. That would be a great way to advertise your business. Just beware of some of the other groups that will contact you if you put yourself out there. Detailers are in a more unique spot to be able to network. I'd never pay for the privlege of that. lol I can do it for free every single day. ;)

Chris,

Allow me to apologize for the weather. I spent Thursday and part of Friday detailing the GP. I polished the bejebus out of it and then finished off with two coats of EX and one of Natty's Blue.

I also don't consider it a coincidence that Love Bug season has started just as I finished buffing off that last coat of wax.

I'm almost afraid to detail the MG or Envoy in fear of attracting a hurricane.

I feel your pain, Chris. I just got back from a weeks vacation and spent a little more money than I anticipated, I don't have work lined up today but I do through the rest of the week and Saturday and they're saying rain is coming in tonight and could last 'til Friday :( I really, really need to work too...
However I did return my unused snow chains this morning and got an extra $100 in my pocket :)

We've got quite a few places around here that sell/rent canoes, you could make some dough selling 'em up here in Northern CA ;)

I'd be glad to take that wet off your hands. It would kill the work I have lined up but it's getting a bit crispy down this way and the ground is starting to crack.

Not getting any rain down there? We had some pretty heavy rain yesterday and this morning. Thought I was going to have to start building an Ark!

On the other hand, I went from no work due to the rain, to fully booked again....withing a few hours...
Weird how it all works out..... Just got back from doing a rear seat and floorboard shampoo. Spilled milk.......had a nice aroma to it.:surrender

Hey Chris when you sell the canoes don't forget to also sell them on the protection package for $400 and of course the annual booster that goes with it :D :lol2:

Sorry about your bad luck with the weather you're having. If Texas is anything like Arkansas, you may not be out of luck yet. The newscasters here just spin the weather wheel to guess what it's going to be like outside.

That comment is totally unfair to the weather forecasters that do try to use the latest technology. :)
The latest thing in our area is a weather station with a rock suspended from it. When they are not sure about how to interpret the information from the weather station, they check the rock.

If the rock is wet, it’s raining.

If the rock is swaying, it’s windy.

If the rock is hot, it’s sunny.

If the rock is cool, it’s overcast.

If the rock is white, it’s snowing.

If the rock is blue, it’s cold.

If the rock is gone, tornado!

This system has proven to be exceptionally reliable.

I wonder, what about trying to see if any autobody shops or car lots could use work on rainy days.

Well, that seems like it would be a little more efficient than the wheel of weather, but I'm still not sure it would help any of these guys/gals down here.

I just picked up work at a dealership I worked at. I know the owner pretty well, and he calls me a bit. I go shoot the breeze with them about once a week.
I guess their porter went out to get a pack of smokes when he got his check and never returned......
Typical bum
