I now know the true meaning of "aggravation"

Whose yer DADDY!??!?!?!?!
So about 2 weeks ago I was running an errand in North Long Beach when something went sideways in my transmission. I only had second gear and reverse. So I headed straight to the Chevy dealership near my house. Let me tell you that was a fun trip down the 405, 35 mph with hazard lights on and I still got the finger and a couple blasts of the horn from some people.
But I digress.
I roll it in and talk to a very nice service tech and he tells me that they should have it all squared away in about 2-3 days. I tell him OK and proceed to prep my car for it to be in someone elses care, i.e. turn off the stereo, pull the fuses for the amplifiers, gather all my papers and such, and lock the center console with whatever personal belongings I am leaving in the truck. I get his personal assurance that it won't be washed.
They give me the "loaner" a 98 Lumina with a funky odor. Free is free, but MAN does this car stink!
2-3 days goes by and no call or nothing. I start calling them. After 5 calls I finally get through to the guy and he tells me that the transmission specialist is gone until monday, this is on thursday. Arrrrrrr:wall
Finally a full week later I get in touch with them again, and they inform me that the transmission has completely grenaded (torn itself apart) and that I am going to have to buy a new one. I tell him thats about what I expected but that I want to see the broken parts. They actually let me into the service area and a very nice tech showed me precisely what went wrong, going so far as to put up another transmission on the table to compare. Pretty nice guys. So I agree to the SERTA replacement tranny at $3000, with a 100,000 mile warranty.
It was supposed to be done yesterday but had to be pushed back to today, no big deal, but by now I REALLY want my truck back. I miss my stereo, I miss my leather, I miss washing it. :( And the loaner REALLY sucks.
I go over there today to pick it up he walks me through everything they did, they remembered not to wash it, and everything seems fine. I dump off the heap of a loaner and I drive off in my rig, :dnaughty
I approach a small hill on my way home, and it drops to second and then the tranny completely slips and the engine touches red line while coasting in neutral.
WTF?
I stop and start again, tranny slips again!
Sailors would have turned red at the string of curses that I let loose with.
U-Turn back to the dealership, where they inform me that they have no idea what went wrong and they will take care of it, for free since it is under the new warranty, but that it is going to take a couple days.
GARRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!
But the "good" news is that nobody swooped the loaner in the 10 friggin minutes that I was gone.
If I had known I was going to be driving it this long I would have detailed the damn thing.
Sorry for the novel, but I do feel better.

P.S. The best part though was when I went to pick it up one of the porters (you know the kids they hire to move cars around and whatnot) comes up to me and asks "Is this your truck?",
me - "yea"
Porter - "Do you know that your stereo doesn't work?"
me - "Really? Thats strange"
Porter - "Yea man we saw all those speakers and we wanted to see how loud it would go, but when we turned it on there wasn't no sound coming out of it."
me - "thats really quite strange"
Porter - "Oh well" and walks off.
And people think I am being paranoid when I pull the fuses for the amplifiers.

Sorry to hear. I hope it all works out for you. The thing with the kid is just rediculous. Its horrible that no one can respect other people's property.

Greg

That sucks! Smart to pull out your fuses though, I'd probably do the same thing

I've had a rough week or two also. And on Saturday I spent about an hour in the morning re-polishing the passenger side of my car and undercoating the frame/wells. I make a 7-11 Slurpee trip after I'm done, some chick pulls out from a side street while I'm going about 45 and tags my RR door and wheel...:boot

Should we start a weekly cursing thread? :)

This past week would be the PERFECT reason for a cusring thread. I doubt Dwyane will go for it but who knows? :D

Sorry to hear about the repair. The kids and the stereo cracks me up. I'm amazed at what others are willing to do with property that is not theirs. I remember once a new customer told me why she no longer used some local detailers. Seems during an appointment they got lunch and ate it in her car while listening to her stereo.

I'm sorry to hear of all the problems, especially with a new transmission. I must say that the porter's comment would have me at the top dog's door in a heartbeat.

Oh man! I can't believe that they kid even admitted that to your face! Sorry about all your troubles. I agree with you about detailing the loaner. :) I hope this next transmission works out for you. Repair shops are such a trauma. My car just spent a month in one and when I got it back it was swirled up the wazoo, it had some kind of chemical stains all along the entire passenger side and paint overspray from another vehicle that they were working on. Happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy! :wall

ROFL!!!! ya'll crack me up. I've been here only a few days and so far I've had something like 15 requests to see my picture! ehehehehe

Jennifer,

Sorry for the aggravation. I am always worried about my car during service, whether it is in for something major or as minor as an oil change.

It blows me away to think that we are taking our cars for "service" to improve them / fix them, and sometimes get them back in in worse order than we left them.

It is mind boggling isn't it?? Even new cars when detailed by the dealership. It's a wonder they don't charge you for the swirls they give you as well!

while we are on the topic, everytime I go to the dealership, I have to polish out scratches from the "mechanic" leaning over the fender to get to the engine bay.

I always ask the service advisor to "please" park the car away from others on the lot, and they always look @ me like I am crazy.

I hope that your problems get solved soon, and with as little hassle as possible.

Ay!!! Stop please!! You're killing me! I think I would make a full body jumpsuit out of microfiber and force that mechanic to wear it before working on my car!! :) He could work and buff at the same time. :D

if you had my mechanic, he'd roll around in metal shavings on the garage floor in the jumpsuit and still manage to cause a problem.

i just wish i didn't feel like a nag when i hope to get my car back in @ least the same shape that i brought it in!

Time to contract a hit on the mechanic! lol
