I need something to dress my door seals with

1Z einszett Gummi Pflege if this Gummi Pflege is anything like the one BMW use to sell it works GREAT. BMW use to recommend their Gummi Pflege for lots of uses but then they stopped importing it.

It works wonders for reducing the noise, but it's messy and leaves a whitish residue after about 8-12 months. I have been using it for about 4 years, but I would like to switch to something else.

Roll your windows down about 1mm and see if the noise goes away. That will give you an idea where to apply it.

Ok, after googling Syl-Glyde, I found soem BMW owners have been using it on their seals and it works great. I think I'll head back to Napa tomorrow and pick up some. How much did you pay for yours?

Ironically, it sounds like it is coming from my door lock area, but if I dress the upper seals it goes away until it dries up. :nixweiss

Yea, when the windows are rolled up, they put pressure on the seal causing it to sound like a rattle.

A lot of the products being mentioned sound...uhm..."dirty" to me  If not the grease/etc. itself, I'd still worry about dirt-attraction.

BigJimZ28- I for one *do* appreicate how well that stuff must work on your t-tops :D That *is* very impressive :xyxthumbs

sal329- Yeah, rumor had it that the BMW gummi stick *was* relabeled 1Z but I dunno for sure. I guess it coulda just as easily been the Wurth stuff, but I bet it was *one* of those.

..How long does the 1z stuff last typically?

Probably not long enough for your situation, which sounds pretty extreme  Also, it's probably too "light" a product for this one. Guess my suggestion wasn't very good this time.

I have this same exact issue on my 02 Jetta. It drives me absolutely insane. I tried everything from bending the upper door frame with the window down, using all sorts of rubber "moisturizers" and they only last a month or so. I did gain some ground when I completely removed the rain tray moulding that the doors rest against and clean them with Isopropyl alcohol and a MF vigorously. I cleaned off much oxidation and I then let them dry. I worked in Armor All afterward so it was not greasy or slimy to the touch. I am going two months now, but I do still notice some noise in the cold morning commute. In winter the noise drives me batty. I am very close to replacing the rubber moulding and/or taking the car to a body shop for door alignment.

GM Makes a silicone emulsion just for that .. bout $5 a bottle .. thats the only thing I found that lasts and works .. its made specifically for that and once applied and rubbed in it also looks good ..

It solved the same issue your having .. I had it on my 03 Passat.

Hmmmm.....I just bought some Syl-Glyde and put it on my upper seal, and what do you know, it didn't go away! I am at my whits end here now... I even smeared some on the edge of the door where I noticed some rubbing, still nothing! So I am off to tear my door panel apart again an hunt this ****er down. Why is it only my passenger front door??? I am thinking after 3 years this is a lost cause.....

I might buy some of this just for the hell of it.

Found the source of all my pain, it was the freakin door latch!!!!! Apparently it was dried up, so I sprayed some silicone lube/protectant in there and no more creaks, no more rattles, silence! So now that, plus all my other rattle proofing in that door, I should be set! Sorry this turned into a find my rattle issue, but now I have lots of advice on how to keep my door seals nice and fresh. Thanks for the help guys. Just wait, this time tomorrow I will be back complaining that it's still rattling/creaking... Happened 5 times since last week. :o

Still quiet. I'm thrilled to pieces. :D Course now I found a little rattle in my center console, but nothing comparable. Anyway, thanks again guys.

I wish someone would repeat my comparison test between the Wurth and the 1Z Gummi Sticks...I'm curious what conclusions somebody else would come up with.

Thinking of this thread, I did the A8's seals yesterday (with Wurth Rubber Care).

save yourself some $ & buy dielectric grease

have use it and spray Silicon lube for years per old GM info

(it is still recommended @ the dealer last time I checked)

food for thought ....I have a 81 Z-28 Camaro that has been outside 24-7 for the 10+ years I have owned it and treating the top-top seals and door seals with dielectric grease & spray Silicon lube

and THEY STILL DO NOT LEAK! if you know anything about these cars that is a feat

also the seals on the conv top of my 97 z-28 camaro are in great shape for 11 years old and spending as much time as possible @ the shore

I tried dielectric grease on my rubber trim & plastic trim- 05 Ford, it worked better than any product i have tried- for exterior trim. I used a foam applicator to apply it and rub in. Wished I had known about using this before. So many $$$ spent on products that would wash off in the 1st wash.

Maybe try some tire dressing? I'd bet that something like Black Magic Tire Wet, would soak right into rubber seals since they are less dense than tires.
