I need help now!!!

I can see the swirls and recommend DACP. DACP is just more user friendly. Ok, What are the white specks in the picture?

Where can I get the DACP? I have not found a place online yet. Can you give me more info on it.

The specs came from dust while sitting outside. I washed at 6:00am before the sun really came up...it's been in the garage all day, then backed out only to inspect.

9 times out of 10, the Meguiar's dealers have everything in stock. If not, im sure they could get it within a week. Or just look in your phone book and search for body shop suppliers. Copy and paste the link below (without the x).

Glad someone seconded my opinion to try DACP! I think BJ turned me on to, and quite recently in fact.

I buy mine straight from Meguiar's website, www.meguiars.com, and the nice thing about buying from them now is that they'll give you a free canister of All Purpose Wipes, which I personally use in the kitchen and bathroom :). The stuff isn't available from CMA, autodetail or superautomart, so if you don't have a local distr., then their website is the place to turn.

And ditto re. don't worry! You can't mess up your paint foreever with the tools and techniques you're using. It'll be fine! We've all been there- I've almost cried a few times, too, until I got some advice here and fixed everything just fiiiiiiiiine.

UPDATE!!!

Well, I decided to jump back on the horse, and I really worked the FI-II into the car until it almost completely buffed out.

I backed the car out, and I didn't see a single swirl. Unfortunately, the sun was pretty low, so maybe I just didn't have the right angle, but it certainly looked nice.

I'm applying my BFII right now!!

Thanks for all of the help guys.....I hope I have found the answer!

I'd suggest a higher speed setting (5 or 6) for FI-II . . . it takes quite a bit of action to get the abrasives to break down. I've had the best luck working FI-II until almost completely gone; if the FI-II residue was at all difficult to remove, try working it longer. Try to take it off too soon, and it can be a real bear - when you've worked it long enough it comes off without a great deal of effort. As a point of reference, it usually takes me several minutes to polish a single section. Maybe I'm slow, but if I try to rush it, I end up with the hazing and swirls you've experienced.

Also, don't be afraid to use a decent amount of pressure for the first few passes when working a section . . . gradually lessen the pressure as the polish begins to dry out, until at the very end of a section, you're using only the machine's weight on the paint.

I've been able to go straight to sealing after FI-II . . . if you can get the technique right (which is, unforunately, something you have to really get the hang of by "doing" rather than reading), it leaves a pretty acceptable gloss without following up with a milder polish. At least, I've found that to be true on lighter colored cars like my silver WRX; black may benefit significantly from a second go-round with something milder.

My thoughts exactly:xyxthumbs

Well, after getting a chance to look at it out in the direct sun today, I will say that while there are a few swirls left, it definitely is something that I can live with....now I just have to get off my butt and do the rest of the car...probably one panel at a time.

Thanks for the help and encouragement....I was pretty damn worried after my first experience. I'm going to try to track down some dacp as well.

Thanks again autopians!! :bounce :bow

You also need to get off your butt and install your stereo :) . Are you still trying to sell your car? Good luck with with the PC, i'll be trying the same thing with my civic once the weather warms up. Be sure to post some pics when you're done.

Who's this giving me static...decided to keep the car. With my MBA tuitiou killing me, gas prices through the roof, it just makes more sense (I hate that phrase) to keep the Civic instead of the S4 or the M3. I could afford either, but keeping a social life and saving something for the future are more important.

Don't talk to me about the stereo...ID still has some of my parts, and I'm working on planning the entire electrical system as we speak. Now I'm trying to fit the gear in there and plan the fabricaion.

It's damn near impossible to fit 4 rack mount processors (19x6.5x1.75 ea) + 2 Arc amps (18x8x1.75 ea) and fit the IDMAX in there all without killing my trunk space and keeping the fold down rear seats....check out this photo

I may be way off with this but did you clay before polishing. I am thinking some debris may be causing some of the marks. Just a thought.

This would be EBP_SI from honda-tech. That looks like a serious system you have going there. One of my friends recently got an IDMAX sub for his audi and some focal utopia's for the front. Though i'm not really fond of the sounds focals give, the IDMAX is absolutely amazing. I'm so impressed i'm going to be putting one in my car. I'm thinking about putting some B&W drivers in my car because i'm so happy with my home set.

rcurley55, any update on your car? I'm curious because I'll be using PC to remove swirl.

Check a few posts up...I wasn't working the 3M product enough....if you are using the FI-II or the SMR, you have to work it for a long time to break it down fully....then you get a beautiful finish. I've removed/covered most of my swirls, and my finish looks great now!
