I've been trying some Nick's new high tech microfiber towels for QD work. This is a great, great towel: a brand new type of extra plush microfiber that seems well suited to shoes final polish stages. It appears to be two mfs stitched together...Here are some pictures...

They are 3 for $19.95 or one for $9.95 which is reasonable for this level of microfiber.



It works very well for applying Z-8 after a regular wash.



Very highly recommended and it ranks among my very best towels. :woot2:
 
Agree. Been using it for about 6 months. May be the ultimate micro towel today. If you need or want a Charisma thick towel in microfiber this is it.
 
Pretty steep price for a 16"x16" towel.

I'm quickly discovering that car care enthusiasts are being taken for a ride (pardon the pun) when it comes to many products as these same or nearly identical products are sold in the housewares sections of many stores for substancially less. Premium micro fiber kitchen towels for example.
 
Oh I think that is a bit harsh

You cannot compare pakshak, monster fluffy and other MF towels sold by autopian stores to something from a supermarket or auto parts store



Long live the monster fluffy, I have heaps of them sitting here just waiting to be used.

Much easier to hang on to than other towels

I've yet to see an OTC MF that compares to one of the "premium" MF's being sold on-line. I've bought plenty of both, and all have their place in my arsenal, but nothing I've ever bought OTC compares to a CBT, a PakShak Ultra-Plush +, or any number of other quality MF's being sold (which I'm sure the Monster Fluffy qualifies as).



I'm glad there are cheaper MF's available and I use them for door jambs, wheels, windows, and some I'll even use on our daily drivers, but when it comes to my street rod, out come the premium MF's. A couple of years ago I had a couple of CBT's on my Christmas list and even my mother-in-law was impressed with that towel.



Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

Which premium MF products have you tested against their counterparts that are found in housewares sections? Which products are similar/identical to the premium MF, as you claim? Like most folks, I don't mind saving a few bucks and I'd appreciate some concrete pointers.

I still prefer the UltraSmooth towels from Pak for Z-8 but the Monster does a great job. I just tested one application so I'm still learning about how much absorption there is.

Amen. There are all sorts of problems with OTC brands-low fiber density, different fiber composition, poor finishing, tags, etc. $7 for a towel of this quality is a good deal imho.

I have never seen anything else like the Monster Fluffy anywhere. By far the thickest and most plush towel I have ever used. Well worth the money if you have a car with soft paint.
 
I only use towels with silk binding nowadays. But I've asked this before but what purpose does a towel this plush serve? I think the auto MF are too thick and big as it is. I can see maybe a final buffing towel, for waxing and polish removal seems like you'd end up wasting product and the towel ends up touching the floor when working on the lower portions because its too big.

Too big? It's a standard 16x16 towel. You can use it for removing wax, for quick detail work, for final polishing.
 
The Monster Fluffy is perfect for ONR washing cars with softer-or really any-paint. Super thick nap and very absorbent.
 
Great thing about them is you can just fold in half and gently slide across a just polished surface with some Quik shine or similar and all residue is gone in a wipe



During an indoor car show recently, I was helping out a WRX car club and assisted in removing some megs deep crystal carnauba wax from a wagon

The owners had two MF's with stitched edging and tags and were only just bigger than my hand



By the time they did two panels on the left side, I had done the entire right side and tailgate

Fold once, slide and turn over for a perfect finish.

I find it great for QDing

spread QD with a pakshak towel and then I get the fluffy out and do a couple quick wipes with the towel folded once.



Perfect every time.
 
Much easier to hang onto as well

They are great with werkstatt AJ trigger when they are a little damp

The product is wiped on easier and works itself in better, then I grab a dry ultra plush and do a few light wipes and it's slick as
