Same here. Last spring, I polished out a black G35. Late summer, the owner takes it to the dealer for some warranty work. They decide to "detail" it since they had the car several days. Of course, by "detail" I mean they hologrammed the car pretty bad. He gave them one chance to fix it and they were unable. Nice payday for me to fix it up. I should write the dealership a thank-you, right?



The local BMW dealer buys their 3M products from the same place I do and last time I was there, I mentioned to the owner they should let the BMW dealer know about how well Ultrafina combats holograms. He said they already did a demonstration for them and while the dealership agreed that UF worked as advertised, they didn't want to spend that kind of money on polishes and pads. :wall
 
HA, today I was at the dealer to have a odd squeak checked out (couldn't locate it myself, turned out to be a TSB that Honda had put out anyways, so a known issue, but not to the EP3 community). Anyways I told them specifically that I do not want my car going anywhere near their car wash. Said ok, put it on the work order. All work done, etc. Guy does a test lap in the car to make sure problem was fixed, seen him pull up near the car wash, told him to not run it through. He tried to give me flak, told him if he runs it through the wash I will not pay my bill as it's on my work order to NOT run it through.



Car was dirty (hatch catches a lot of the dirt and exhaust produces a lot of dirt too), one of the techs gave me crap about it. Told him my car is just dirty I can wash it in 15 minutes and be fine, and not produce a scratch unlike every single one of their cars they have on the lot. The guy then goes there's no way to wash a car without inducing a scratch or swirling. I just started laughing uncontrollably and then told him and the service manager to check out autopia if that's what they believe!



So if anyone of Hugh White Honda in Columbus is reading, HI! This the guy with the NHBP 02 SI!!!!
 
Yeah, some real winners at that place it seemed. I came home afterwards, pulled into the shop, got some ONR ready, and about 20 minutes my car was done, and my friend was doing his Prelude while the welds on the exhaust cooled (I have a lift, can get a car high enough I can stand underneath it just fine, and I'm 6'4"
 
I work in a dealership,and i agree with what u guys say about these dealership "service" people not knowing what they're talking about,i work cleaning the cars after they get worked on the bodyshop,i enjoy it cause of the challenge and how nasty these customers keep their cars,but i guess the problem with dealerships is that,they dont really take the time to train employees when it comes to cleaning stuff etc... ad they always wanna go the cheap way,thats why i only concentrate more on doing interior detailing at work,cause there's no way i can do anything besides waxing and clay over there,they dont wanna invest on good materials ,i see the guys over on the other department,wich is supposed to be the "detail" dept. wiping out the outside of the car with the same chamois they use for cleaning doorjambs,it's ridiculous,i try to ask my shop foreman for materials more often that way we can do a cleaner job,i had my supervisor ask me"i dont get it you just washed this car and its got waterspots all over it and it's dusty with swirl marks" so i tell him "um yea you know black cars are a pain in the ***,we only have tap water to clean the cars,and if you wanna go ahead and buy us new cleaner materials more often we wouldn't have this problem what do you expect? you're expecting a spotless result with regular carwash stuff?" it's so retarded.
 
and yes there are a lot of bodyshop hacks,i started doing bodywork there but i got out because of the cheap quick fixes some of them try to do.
 
Oh forgot to put, there was a guy I seen "detailing" a car at the dealership, spraying some foaming aerosol stuff (looked like scrubbing bubbles), and paper towels. I couldn't look after that...
 
Some dealers are very bad and very few are good. One time I took my car in for service and forgot to tell they I didnt want a wash. Well they didnt wash it , the service agent said my car looked to good and he didnt want to scratch it up. At least he knows what his brushes do .He told me that only very dirty cars get washed. Nice cars they leave alone.
