I just ordered Wet-Ice Over Fire Shine Kit

Well after several evenings reading here I decided on the BLACKFIRE Wet-Ice over Fire Shine Kit For my "09" Denali truck and my Wife's "08" Yukon XL. Both vehicles are black with paint in new condition. I have meguiars wax on them now, can I simply use dawn dish soap to remove the wax before application or will I need a cleaner. I'm all for using the least aggressive but effective method.
 
I have read pros and cons to both. I went with the advise that it is best to go with a product specifically made for removing wax etc off cars. Dawn is not. I have used it in taxidermy to remove fatty oils from fish and ducks. My dad used it all the time to wash his car. Nothing went wrong. So I guess it is your personal preference. Let me know, I would like to know how well it works or not.
 
Yes you can use a high concentrated Dawn dish saop solution to wash and strip the wax off your car. A more desireable way may be to use a dedicated product for wax stripping and degreasing like P21s TAW (Total Auto Wash) but dawn will work too.



You can also go a step further to ensure wax is completely off the paint by doing an ALcohol wipedown with regular Isopropyl alcohol that you can get at any Target walmart or drug store.
 
I would recommend also doing the IPA (isopropyl alcohol) widedown before putting on the sealant. By the way Blackfire Wet Diamond provides the paint with an awesome shine. I am curious to see what sort of a shine it will have after it is topped off with carnuba. I put on two coats of BFWD on my wife's car on top of Chemical Guys EZ Creme and the shine is incredible and the surface is very slick.
 
Fwiw. BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish is the step before adding BFWD & Midnight sun. It will remove old wax and prep the surface for the wet-ice over fire.



If you haven't bought the kit yet, you might look into getting the gloss enhancing polish too..
 
Thanks for the advise on this product folks. I went ahead and ordered the BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish as well. I plan to polish, seal and wax the truck next weekend. I told LOML I have a date with Sierra and will be out of the house most of the day. :buffing:

Yep that should keep you out of trouble! It took me 5 hours do to the following to my wife's 4 door sedan:



Wash

Clay

IPA wipe down

1 coat of Klasse All-in-One (to clean)

1 coat of Chemical Guy's EZ Creme

2 coats of BFWD
 
Take out the Klasse and do a polishing step and take the gloss to another level. Then you do your EZ Creme and BFWD. You don't need another step to clean, the EZ will cover that. Do something like Power Finish with an appropriate pad for your situation, then EZ Creme and Blackfire. Killer 1 step polishing job finish there.

AFAIK BFWD wants 8 hours of cure time between coats or an LSP. Looks like your second coat was for naught. :(
 
DJ thanks for the feedback - a PC is in my future plans. Right now I am doing everything by hand. While I am patient, polishing by hand would be just insane. I did however spot polish the worst areas of the car.



Mindflux - no worries there I put the second coat on the next morning. BFWD had like 10 hours to cure :).
 
I've been wanting to apply the entire Blackfire line to my wife's car, but I have a few Zymol products coming Tuesday.. So I'm trying to decide what to apply. :think:



Last summer I was changing LSP's about every week, or so.. That got old real quick. LOL Now I'm trying to stick with one LSP for a while.. Pretty hard to do when you have a bunch of products just sitting. lol

I have a queue of like 6 or 7 LSPs sitting that I still haven't tried so I know how you feel.

I think this was a smart move to add the polish; it will remove the old LSP but will also add some sparkle/shine to the paint.:2thumbs:

Then the sealant and wax will look stunning. I use Menzerna polishes as a prelude to the Blackfire sealant and wax and am thrilled with the results.:heelclick
