I had my wheels black chromed by www.goodrichtechnology.com They did an AMAZING job and I wanna keep my wheels looking like new, so before I get the tires mounted what should I do to them. I'm a Zaino fanatic, so should I throw a coat of Zaino on them before I get them mounted....or is there something else tha would be better. I've never had chrome wheels before....except for my Cobra....but I didn't keep it long enough to have to take care of them. ANY help is appreciated....thanx guys!

I dont know is chrome is supposed to cure like paint im not sure. But Zaino Them or put on some AIO on them.

I Zaino my chrome wheels twice a year. And during my weekly cleaning, I give them a shot of Meg's Quick Wax.

Keep's em nice and shiney.

Got any pics of your black chrome wheels??? I'd like to see them.

Zaino is amazing on chrome. Creates the slick surface you need to keep your wheels clean. How about some pics!:xyxthumbs

Whatever you do be sure to use a tire cleaner that does not contain acid, bleche white, for instance, an aggressive tire cleaner will ruin your wheels. Don't ask me how I know:(

Good Point.

I only use Zaino Show Car Wash on my wheels and tires. Keeps the chrome sprakling and won't strip the Z2!.:up

Nicky,

Although i dont know how to maintain chromes, i have a different question:

How much did it cost to do it? and iam also in chicago, so where did you got them done?

Thanx

I can't beleive you expect us to help you without showing a picture! :D

:showpics

I think you will be fine applying the Zaino right away. :xyxthumbs

yea, i only was my 18" chrome Evo5's about twice, maybe three times a year with Z-1 then Z-2 (should I just use Z-2?) and then whenever I wash with Z-7 I just take a wheel brush and it usually does a perfect job removing dust and any spots that were on there. If you do it before they are even mounted then those should be lookin perfect for a long time, just don't curb them!

Here's a pic of the wheels...they'll be on my CL as of July 12 or 13th.....

Those are nice! What color is your car? I zaino my chrome rims...a lot actually. I would defenetly suggest a couple coats on the inside by the brakes. It makes cleaning the inside 10 times easier, and can be cleaned with a QD. I just QD it every week and add another coat of Zaino, and they look better than brand new. Don't use any kind of wadding polish though. I tried it lightly on a very small portion of them, and it leaves very small marring marks at a certain angle. I Z5ed it so you can't at all anymore. Also, I would skip Z5 for this, as the rims are in perfect condtion right now anyways.

Hi Nicky Pass,

Very nice rims. They will look great on your TL. How much did you pay to get them chromed?

With Aloha, :)

What ???

Chrome is a plating.

Its electro-deposited on the surface of the object.

The best type of chrome plating is 'triple plate' where they first clean the bare metal, plate it with copper, then nickel and finally chrome.

Chrome is very hard, but porous - the nickel does all the protecting (coins have alot of nickel in them if your wondering what it looks like).

I would just wash the chrome wheels with normal soap and water and apply some sort of wax to help prevent wet brake dust attacking and pitting the surface.

Something that will withstand a high temperature would probably be a good idea.

Just a note :

Chrome will swirlmark like paint .... so be careful with the abrasives!

I emailed them and they told me it would cost $174.00 a piece for my AMG 18" monoblocks. Plus it would take 3 weeks till i get them back. And off course all the shipping charges.
