I just got a Porter Cable 7424, now what?

I just got my porter cable from UPS yesterday, and after opening it up and looking at the directions, I am thoroughly confused.

I have seen multiple Porter Cable videos on how to actually use it as well as the technique to use, how to break down compounds, etc. That said, what I haven't seen and don't know how to do is actually getting the Porter Cable ready to apply compound.

In all of the videos, the Porter Cable is ready to go with it's pad of choice already on, they put on some compound, and then go to work. I have no idea on how to get the Porter cable ready to go with the pads.

Are there any resources out there to show me this, or can someone explain this to me?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Do you own a backing plate?

Basically, you will want to thread your backing plate of choice onto the pc. Then you used the included wrench to tighten it down further. Don't over tighten it though. Now, you can add your pad of choice and go to town.

Backing plates have a hook/loop surface which enables the user to quickly change pads midstream if need be. I think the majority of us use a 6" flexible backing plate. This will allow you to use 6.5/7.0" pads.

I know what that feels like. I got mine off eBay with nothing. I went to http://www.danase.com/ and got the edge pad set (which comes with 4 pads and the adapter); make sure that you get the adapter. Keep in mind to use a discount when you get your pads (Autopia members get discount), because they are a little expensive. But from there you seem to know what to do.
