So I've heard that you can use homemade recipes for clay lube....anyone have a nice simple solution or recipe for this?

Its gotta be cheaper than buying it from local supply houses, and cheaper than buying spray detail as well....

any suggestions are appreciated!

alot of people use soapy water. you can take a spray bottle fill it up with water and add a few drops of car soap...

I've heard of people using the soapy water solution. I my self use PB SG or DG QD when I run out of lube. I might give the soapy water solution a try though.

There are HUNDREDS of Quick Detailers out there. Chemical Guys, Finish Kare, Clear Kote, Meg's. That's just to name a few. I usually try to use the quick detailer that I use the sealant/wax for. Better durability/looks hypothetically speaking.

A good cheap and GOOD one I found was Clear Kote's Quik Shine. You can find it at brilexsolutions.com for $11.75USD for 32oz. It's $30 for a Gallon.

Awesome service too. I e-mailed them for a tracking number, no one answered. 5-10mins later they are calling me I will be receiving a tracking # via e-mail.:bigups

Soapy water will shorten the life of your clay bar. I use Meguiar's Last Touch cut at 1:1. It's about $15 a gallon. So you get two gallons of clay lube for $15, that's less than $2 a 32 oz bottle. Oh and I an hooked on the smell too.

I use ONR as a clay lube. 3 capfuls in a 32 oz. sprayer.

Use it during an ONR wash. Wash the area using the typical ONR method, but before drying spray the area with the ONR lube and clay. Dry as usual. Has proven to be a very quick and effective wash/clay process.

+1

I even re-use the old maroon Meguiars QD bottles that I had purchased a while back. Two gallons should last you a long time, I'm STILL using mine, and I've had it for 2 years!

I have been claying with the soaping water and a spray bottle for 2 years. Clayed several of just family and friends car and I would typically get 3-4 descent sized cars with one piece of the old meguiars yellow clay. Haven't used the new stuff but I soon will and will deffinately keep an eye out for this. Only time I noticed the clay not working anymore is when the clay isn't good anymore. Nothing else really. You take care of the clay, store it properly, clean it and knead it as necessary then I see no problem with using the car soap and sprayer as lube. But, for sure, if you have any real life experience with it actually shortening the clays usage then please post otherwise I will stick with this method.

Either way the Meguiars cut 1:1 for 15 a gallon isn't a bad choice and is a very nice price plus you wont even use an oz. of spray per panel or so. I don't think that's a bad idea at all though.

One piece of advice for everyone.

Never run you clay bar over an area that you have sprayed with Tarminator. This stuff will turn your claybar into a sticky mess in no time.

Learned this on the hard way the other day.
