I hate meg's medium cut compound

I works pretty good but I hate using it because it runs like water. Whats something I can use that cuts about the same but is thicker? I've been thinking of using 105 and 205, any other suggestions?

Are you referring to M01 Medium cut cleaner?
 
Yes, this stuff. I can't possibly remember every name and number of every thing I use.

I'm also looking for something that cuts a little more in addition to this, again something thats not runny

Just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same stuff. Guess I never noticed it to be runny though. :nixweiss



Regardless M105/M205 are the way to go.







M01 is great for working on old single stage paints though. ;)
 
No one else has this problem? maybe it's just the one bottle I bought. When you put it on the car it just runs off.
 
I concur that M105/M205 are great. I used the duo last weekend with the PC and it took the fine scratches away without any problems. The M205 is especially easy to work with. The only down side is that they produce a lot of dust.

Sounds like it went bad. If you call Meguiars Customer Care they will likely send you a new bottle.

I had an unusually thin/runny bottle of M205, which was replaced with no problems. Now and then you'll get a bad batch of most anything.

Good idea, I'll call them monday.





So I usually use the medium cut cleaner and follow up with swirl remover. Do you guys have better results with 105 and 205? this is for average cars, some require more and some less.

Going from M01 to something like M09 is too big a jump IMO. And I wouldn't reach for M01 for "regular" correction of b/c paint. Eh...I wouldn't reach for it much at all these days.



And yeah, I think you'll be a lot happier with M105/M205.
 
Another way to stop the running all over the place while you wait for the replacement to arrive is to apply it directly to the pad instead of the car. This is actually the preferred method anyway.

They guy who taught me (auto body school) told us to put it on the car so thats what I've always done, I have no problem changing that though.
 
Anyways, looks like I'll try to get a free bottle to sit on the shelf in my shop and try some 105/205.
 
I'm assuming we're talking about using a rotary here.



Meg's recommends applying the product to the panel for rotary, to the pad for DA.



I do find M01 Medium Cut Cleaner to be thinner than other Meg's product. But I haven't found that to be a problem. As long as you're working a reasonable size area (Meg's recommends no bigger than about 18"x18" at a time) you don't need to put down very much product. (I think most people tend to use more than necessary.)



Meg's M83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish has about the same cut rating (6 on Meg's scale vs. 7 for Medium Cut Cleaner) and is thicker.



M83 is also the newer of the two products, formulated since the advent of clearcoats and catalyzed urethanes. M01 is an older product, around since the days of lacquers and solvent born enamels (although it might have been reformulated in recent years, I don't know for sure).

Huh, I woulda thought the M01 was a lot more aggressive than M83, just based on my experience with M02 (which always seemed a lot more aggressive than M83).
 
I called customer care and told them the problem and they are sending me a new bottle, they were very easy to deal with, I was on hold for about 2 minutes and the call took about 1 minute.
