:D I just had to share my joy with others :xyxthumbs

So I went to Lowes and got a Porter Cable 7336SP for $109. After being a lurker on this forum for quite some time, and doing detailing by hand, I decided to save my workout for the gym and get a Porter Cable to tackle the swirls ;).

Immediate Plans: I'm gonna order the 6" Velcro Backup Plate from CMA, as advised from 4DSC's Definitive Guide to PC thread. Going to buy yellow, white and grey/black pads from CMA as well.

Quick question though. I noticed that people use ".5" on their machines, such as 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and so on. However when I was rolling the dial, it wouldn't stay at a position I assumed would be between numbers? Instead there's a click right after a number, or right before and on the number. So let's say if I was at 4, I would feel a click at 3.8, 4, 4.2 - assuming the .2 difference is the relative distance from 4. Sorry if this is confusing, but I was wondering if that's normal?

It's too bad that the PC doesn't come with a velcro backing plate included. The yellow and white foam pads just stick onto the velcro? I guess until I try it, it's kinda hard to believe that it'll stick securely to the velcro...

Oh, and is there a big difference between the CMA backing plate versus Top of the Line? There's a notable $6 difference that would help a lot.

Anyway, I'm excited to start using the PC and thanks for your answers!

It is normal for the dial to click in between the numbers. I don't think you have to be exactly between the numbers to get to .5 its not that big a deal. The velcro on my cma pads are stuck very securely to the foam even after 1 1/2 years but there has been some mention of meguiars velcro coming off their pads I think. I have one meguiars finishing pad and have no problems. There probably is no noticiable difference in the two backing plates but I'm not sure. TOL sells quality stuff so I wouldn't hesitate to get it for cheaper.

If it vibrates, consider changing the counterweight...

For some insight, look at the Coastaltool.com site. For about ten bucks more, they incude the 'bonus' kit.

The 7336SP from Lowe's is setup to sand wood. You can adapt it for polishing.

Throw the incuded white pad far away!

Well I searched around for a while and people recommended sticking with the 6" counterweight. So that's why I went with the 7336, since it's already built in. Trust me, I'm throwing away the included backing pads far far away :).

Actually it's not a bad pad. They don't last to long, as it seperates easily from the built in backing plate, but it's a good pad to start with. Use it until it's no good.:D
