I got a new Canon Rebel XSi!

I just picked up a new Canon Rebel XSi DSLR yesterday! This is a huge jump from my 8 year old S30 (3.2mp point and shoot)! Once I get it down, I'm going to be able to get some really good photos. I should be using it on a detail job this weekend and will put it in the C&B.



I got up early this morning and had to go out and snap a few photos in the yard.

Way cool. I got my XTi just a few months ago and considered sending it back since the XSi was coming to market soon. But once I saw the price, I figured I'd better hang on to the XTi unless I was prepared to save for a few more birthdays and Christmases.



I'm jealous of the "Live View" and cheap SD card use!



Of course now I'm saving pennies so I can buy the full license for Lightroom. I'm still working on an extended demo of the Beta 2 version and it's pretty cool.

congrats! i just got my XSi a few days ago as well. it's quite a learning curve for me, being my first dSLR (well...any type of SLR...hehe). post up more pics when you can. :)

They're awesome cameras for sure!



If you already have a good grasp on photo composition, do yourself a favor and buy Understanding Exposure. Revised Edition by Bryan Peterson. Only 6 pages into the book, and I'm already doing a great job in the Manual mode. It was highly recommended over on the Canon forum as well.

Yes, the van is dirty, but here I've captured a good shot with both the van and the sky with proper exposure.

When using Manual Mode, even a dirty car can look good. f/3.5. 18mm. 6 seconds. ISO 100:

Great camera, and congrats with the purchase! I picked up an XT about two years ago and am still learning!
 
Nice pics, and I agree Understanding Exposure is a great book to learn the fundamental basics, and to get the most out of your dslr. Wait until you get lens lust and L fever :scared:



btw ot but are those bridgestone potenza re960as? If so how do you like them. I'm going to upgrade my tires when I have the funds and those are on top of my list. I just want to make sure they're worth the $.
 
Hey nice going on the camera! Yours is the follow up to my camera I bought last year (this time), the xti. I wish I would've waited. I am still learning its abilties. I think I will have to go for a flash bc while the range and its overall photo recordings are quite good, there are more than a few shots where (even with my built in flash) some of the colors are coming up darker than I'd like.



Keep us informed with your progress. Do you have a flash or are getting one?? Congrats!
 
Yeah, the 960's are awesome all-around tires. Highly recommended!



No flash at this point. Perhaps in the future when I also get a bigger lense!

Congrats on the purchase. Photography has to be one of the most addicting hobbies out there, and also one of the most expensive (if you let it). I looked at a XSi a few days ago and, like the XT and XTi before it, it just felt too small in my hands. I know a battery grip would help this, but I just didn't like the overall feel of it. Same goes for the entry level Nikons (D60, D40, etc). I believe I've decided to go with the Sony Alpha 200 dSLR.
 
here was my first attempt at macro today...all i can say is i have a MUCH bigger appreciation for all of the macro shots i see on the canon forums now.

Great shots! The XSI is a an amazing deal! I was waiting for it to come out but ended up getting a 40D instead. Happy with my choice, but my wife doesn't like the size of the 40D

not really...i think it's still too new. prices online only vary around $20-$30 or so for the body + kit lens. check out amazon for a good summary...that's where i got mine from (sold by amazon as well, not a redirect to another vendor). i saved tax and shipping that way too.
