bmwtinut,

Congrats on the new house, (And the new Garage) ! ! ! :bow :xyxthumbs

Every time I help a client get a new home, it brings a big smile to my face! :D

Again, Congrats on your new home! :)

Cheers,

Well thanks all for the kind comments! We actually looked at about 15 homes. All in the $225K to $270K range. Half of them had garages, half of those where attached and all were single. One did have a two car garage but it was part of the basement and the house just didn't make it. All of them needed various stages of repair from complete gutting needed to some only needing updating in certain areas. All but 2 were estate sales/decesed owners.

Townhouses in the area start in the $180's. The area is really booming. We got lucky and the previous owner needed to sell quickly and we had a big snow storm the weeked it hit the market. Beat all the other people to see the house.

We got the house for $195k and it is 100 times better than anything else we saw. The only thing that we really compromised on is the lot size. It is 45 x160 long. I do get a nice size driveway but that will probably limit the garage expansion to only a 2 car unit. But since the house is prettymuch finished inside my wife says that the lift for the garage is in the future.

Now I just need to figure out how to fit 5 cars in the driveway.

And find enough time to detail them all!

Well maybe not in a couple of months but that is in the future if building codes allow it.

Anyone know how wide I would need for a good size 3 car garage.

Mine is about 24 wide I squeeze my 3 small cars in.. I would say that you would want AT LEAST 30 feet wide ;)

I agree with Bill. My garage is supposed to be 20'x20'. But its really 19'x18'. Barely enough to park two cars in plus have room to open doors.

I had custom cabinets installed that took 18" away from my width. Now the possibility of parking two cars is almost zero without some delicate maneuvering. And I can forget about storing things like lawnmowers, bicycles, tool boxes, etc.

So, yeah, a 30ft wide garage would give you all the room you needed to park 3 cars plus have room left over for shelves, a workbench, some cabinets, lawnmower storage, bike parking, etc etc.
