I am thinking of buying Meguiars M16 Paste Wax.

I use it both ways with no issues.

Do any glazes or paint cleaners jump out to you as working better with 16 versus others?

I just rub the pad against the wax (fast, to melt the wax or rather "turn it liquid") or I use a spatula/plastic razor blade to get it on the pad. I then scrape as much wax as I can back *off of* the pad. I really can't overstate how little wax you need to use.

Kinda like frosting a cake huh?:D I guess a cake with extremely light frosting.

I bought my first tin of M16 Professional Paste Wax mainly due to its "cult" status after it was discontinued. Since then, I've bought a second tin to cover me for years to come.

As mentioned earlier, a little goes a long way. If you use it in moderation, it should be easy to buff of the residue with a MF and then follow up with a plush MF for your final buff. I would recommend this wax if you can get it.

A few pics of my 2006 VW Golf (Rabbit) GTI after a M16 application:
