I am not impressed by those that detail high dollar vehicles

It's much easier to do a transformation on a swirl-o-matic mini-van with stains on all fabrics...



It is much more difficult making a noticeble difference on a vehicle that is already in great shape but just needs to be brought to the next level.



The old 80/20 rule applies - It takes 20% of my time getting out 80% of the defects BUT it takes 80% of my time getting the last 20% realized.

True that!!!



Now most of the folks with beaters or mini-vans are very happy with the first 80% and most exotic car owners want/expect that last 20% and are willing to pay for it.

I agree completely.



As long as the detailer isn't cutting corners the paint correction process is the same whether the clear coat was applied in Detroit, Maranello or Korea. In certain cases and some markets it's just over an extended period- but all professionals take the same precautions and aim for their customer's desired result.



The same could be said for any industry, even other tangents of automotive services. Would a mechanic for Porsche be any less competent than a Ferrari technician if they both went to work for Aston Martin? No. The theory and practices behind detailing transfer across manufacturers the same way.



Whether you strictly service exotics and are content doing so- or truly enjoy cleaning juice stains out of a mini van; both types of detailer deserves commendation.

I totally agree and could not disagree with the OP more. I saw a Bentley at dealership with more swirls that some minivans. Someone hacked that job.



I enjoy the exotic turnarounds posted here. They are not all in perfect shape to start with and I think it takes more skill to work with the various shapes and trims that these cars are made with. La Bella Machina detailed a yellow Lambo that was hammered.



If the stakes are higher, more skill is needed. Heck, with a minivan AIO may turn that beast around because they aren't expecting much. If it makes the OP feel better, I can post a few pics of my very simple Jetta.

wow what a thread! i am one who will post a 1997 vw jetta with 128000 miles on it. i put damn near thirty hours into correcting it and got great responses from everyone. the car had a great transformation and it gave me a chance to truley work my abilities to the fulliest. so i can respect what your saying there longhorn. now on the other end. im gonna mention a few members here which the list could be very long. but when you see guys like rydawg, rickrack, thoo1, auto concerige, appollo gfrom hungary do these high end vehicles and spend countless hours working on them taking them completly to a new level you have to admire that. i am one who has done high end stuff, these guys take it to the next level. seriously when was the last time you polished the tools in a tool bag that no one will see? at this point its not a detail its an art. there are reasons these guys get the clicks they do. its beacuse they show and prove there work!!!! work beyond the limits. have you ever seen some of david fereni's interiors. im mean come on this guys is so anal he uses a toothburush. that is above and beyond!!!! there is a differnece between 99 and 100% i know its only 1%. its the 1% of people who will go above and well beyond to make a car flawless! whether your not impressed or are impressed respect it! thanks for the time!!!!

They post pictures of high dollar cars because those are the owners that can afford those close to perfect details.



Noone wants to see your run of the mill detail that only gets the paint to 80%-90%.

I could really give 2 turds whether or not you’re impressed! I’m not trying to impress you or any of the other members (detailers) on this forum when I post a Click N Brag. I post my work on here to solicit business. More than 90% of the jobs I do are generated from this site and every time I post a new C N B, my PM box gets hit with potential clients interested in me doing their vehicles.

From what I've seen here is that some of the guys here are so anal they would NEVER use a toothbrush.



I like all the threads, I prefer to see the details on the less expensive cars. I do maintain a handful of Mercedes and Porsche for family, but the lower end vehicles pertain to me more. I have twin 5 year olds, so it's more pertinent to me to find out how to get applesauce out of the back seat of a saturn vue.
 
people with exotics have the money to have them detailed properly. no one with a van really demands a showroom finish they just it to look good. vans are made to haul and transport people exotics are made to show off. I think people show off these high end pics because the owners just dont want any old body touching their car, meaning you must be a respected detailer to do these kind of cars day in day out. As far as the level of which one is easier "SO WHAT EVERY CAR IS DIFFERENT" some are hard some are not

I was really amazed by how many of my clients that are willing to pay a lot extra for that 1%. Being stuck on a clients car for 5 plus days is no picnic at all. It makes you really miss the DD quickies. Then add the stress factor in on top of it because the expensive car was hacked by another detailer.:drool:



Last year I pulled off some beyond amazing transformations. Now if I only had the energy and time to do some click and brags:sadpace:

Not to be a jerk or nothing but why are you not banned for this?? It was made very crystal clear to me by the powers that be that if I solicite for business I'm banned. That it is HIGHLY looked down upon... At least that is how it was told to me. Since I don't contribute to the bills around here I'm not allowed to list any prudent information. (Hence why I don't do any C&B's) why do you get to get away with it?

I was under the impression that DavidB allows Click N Brags as long as your pictures don't advertise your business name, contact # or e-mail address. I don't do any of the above. Besides the regional forums (where people are allowed to offer their services to people looking for detailers), people seek me out for help 100% of the time. Show me where it's illegal to post pictures of your work?



In case you weren't aware, my contribution/integrity to this forum goes well above posting Click N Brags. The ones to watch are the ones that only use this forum to post their work and nothing else....



Jake - I (and probably many others) would love to see your work. Go for it!
 
We are all allowed to do click and brags and if we get work off of them then good for us. DavidB has also made a special detailers list so we can all put up our information so we can be contacted by customers.



As long as you do not have your number or email in your click and brag, then you are not spamming.
 
Would anyone else agree that in many cases, until recently the fit and finish, and even paint quality of many exotics may not have been up to the standards of a daily driver, and also do not hold up as well to rough handling?



I hear of sanding marks, and varying paint quality, yet the people that own these frequently have much higher expectations. I can see where there would be considerable room for stress! In some cases, the detailer is almost finishing what the factory started.

How's the brand new Lambos at your store looking, especially the black ones?:nervous: They're suppose to be perfect because people think they are an expensive exotic and easy to work on.



That black one that I had seen that day at the show is a perfect prime example of why they should not even touch them and only hire very skilled people to do them. They worked very hard to get them ready for the show and everyone at the show commented all day long on how AWFULL the swirls were. The drummer from Aerosmith and I were laughing at it.
