So I am really excited that I just got my PC 7336. However, there are a plethora of brands and colors for pads as well as different sizes for backing plates.

Essesntially I need to know what size backing plate, what brand/color of pads to get. I need to correct some mild swirling and really tackle some BAD oxidation on another car.

HELP PLEASE!!

I'd get 6-6.5" pads and a "flexible" backing plate to go with them. I forget the exact size but if you go to Classic Motoring Accessories - Car Care and Detailing Supplies you should be able to figure it out. If you can't, just call them up and ask. But the backing plate isn't all that critical because they don't "flex" much anyhow, jsut get the right size for 6-6.5" pads.

Simple pad approach: Lake County brand, orange light cutting pads (2), white polishing pads (3-4), black/gray finishing pads (1-2). If in doubt, buy additional ones because [stuff] happens. Don't worry about the subtle variations of finishing pads, IMO 95% of everything can be done with orange and white pads. Don't worry about harsh yellow cutting pads, stick with the orange at least for now. Do the aggressive work with the orange and follow up with the white, simple as that.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Lake Country pads and backing plate. They are known for their great quality. Justin at www.obsessivedetail.com has his pads and backing plates on sale right now. He also has a kit with backing plate and all the pads needed.

Autogeek also has the Lake Country pads and backing plate.

Or has anybody ever noticed a functional difference between the two? I often think that the differences between the various "finishing/glazing/waxing" pads will really just be a matter of personal preference rather than any significant functional difference.

The Edge systme sounds great, but I was sticking with stuff that I have experience with and I was trying to keep things as simple as possible. When a thread's title is "I'm completely lost"...

It is my understanding correct backing plate size depends on size of pad's velcro backing as you don't want plate bigger than that, otherwise it will cut into pad and destroy it. Usually that is 5" plate. Some pads can accomodate 6" plate but if you go with 6" plate you might want to also get 6" counterweight.

Properautocare has new CCS pads available and "old" design on closeout.
